A Taste of Heaven

August 30, 2010 by Coco BatorLeave a Comment

Like blind tourists, my friends and I stumbled upon a small travel agency one morning in Panajachel, Guatemala. Little did we know, this happenstance would lead to one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life and the most delectable tamale I've ever tasted. I can clearly remember biting into that tamale - warm, delectable cornmeal surrounding a layer of seasoned chicken - after our return from an adventurous weekend in Semuc Champey. It … [Read more...]

More Benelux Travels

August 30, 2010 by Dave8 Comments

It is so awesome to be able to travel between countries with no stops at borders. The only indication you've left one country and entered another one these days in the European Union is when the carrier on your mobile phone changes! The public transportation system works extremely well - you never have to wait very long for either buses or trains. Today's highlight was a visit to the picturesque town of Vianden. Cobblestone streets wind their … [Read more...]

Death by Greece

August 25, 2010 by Nicole GallegoLeave a Comment

110 degrees. All day, all night. This was my first Grecian experience. That, and an old man waving his reproductive organ at us as he peed in the street outside of our hostel. Welcome to Athens. My friend Melissa and I were prepared for the overly friendly old men (we had just come from Spain after all), but the heat was another story. All day and night we would laid there, in our non-air conditioned hostel, with no fans, waiting for that … [Read more...]

Greetings from Luxembourg City

August 21, 2010 by Dave5 Comments

We came out of the sky in Frankfurt after a very choppy flight from San Francisco. Our landing even incorporated a nifty swerve at the last minute which produced a collective oooh and ahh from many of the tired passengers. I had planned on taking a bus from the airport to Luxembourg City however upon landing I discovered Hahn airport (as listed on my bus printout) was not Frankfurt airport. Running to secure a bus I bumped into a number of locals … [Read more...]

Building Back Peru

August 16, 2010 by Andrea WilsonLeave a Comment

Volun-Tourism is one of the fastest growing sects of international travel. Unfortunately, corporations profiting on this burgeoning market have become common. Those looking for travel volunteer opps should seek out groups that are well organized, accept volunteers of varying time commitments, don't charge high participation costs, and most importantly, are non-profit groups putting the majority of resources back into their assisted communities. … [Read more...]

GPSmyCity.com’s City Walk iPhone Apps Make Traditional Bus Tours Obsolete

August 12, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

One of the most popular ways to explore a new city is the dependable tour bus ride. The relaxing journey past famous landmarks can be both educating and entertaining, and one does not need to worry about losing his way in a foreign city. GPSmyCity, an iPhone software start-up company based in Las Vegas, is offering travel software (also known as an app) that turns an iPhone into a trusted tour guide helping visitors navigate independently and … [Read more...]

Spending 104 Days In Singapore

August 9, 2010 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

PHOTOS BY WILLIAM CHO International Freelance Photographer, Singapore The 7:30 twilight already swathes the entire vicinity as I amble along and pass through the hallways of Changi Airport. My Singapore Airline flight has not given much of a jet lag. But then, routinely, a worker and a traveller desperately need to move out from the terminal. The intended place is in Jalan Kuang, East View Garden, about 10 minutes away from the Singaporean … [Read more...]

Notes On Ecuador

August 2, 2010 by AnonymousLeave a Comment

You open your eyes to find you are sitting in a cloud. The road is winding and as you pass each curve, the clouds gather, closer, until the fog outside the window is fresh and you can almost feel its powder settling into every crevice of your face. Occasionally flashes of green peaks, petals that curl upwards to grab onto the moist air. A comfortably slow conversation with your friend in the seat beside you, melancholic and then bright, like the … [Read more...]

Hangzhou: Marco Polo Called it the Most Magnificent City in the World

August 1, 2010 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

When I asked our guide to describe Hangzhou, he said: " We in China say, 'above is heaven; down here Hangzhou." His, were no idle words. They had a ring of truth. Marco Polo, the medieval traveller and the first Westerner to visit Hangzhou, was stunned with its beauty and described it as 'the City of Paradise.' China National Tourism has named it 'China's Best Tourist City' and other organizations have labelled it as 'China's Happiest … [Read more...]
