Sofiero Palace and Gardens

June 17, 2013 by Dave1 Comment

My visit to Sweden this time was decidedly different than my previous. Enduring cold weather, cloudy skies and drizzly conditions during my last visit we spent much of our time indoors drinking hot chocolate, eating sushi and visiting with family who live in Malmö. During the entirety of that trip, the cold weather followed us up to Oslo Norway - and then over to Stavanger and Bergen with fleeting glimpses of the gorgeous fjords tantalizingly … [Read more...]

Breathing in the Beauty of Santa Catalina Island

June 15, 2013 by Dave4 Comments

Santa Catalina Island is located between 19 and 22 miles from the mainland. Catalina provides the calm, quiet and the rural contrast to the urban 24/7 hum of the city of Los Angeles. The Ying and Yang of urban versus rural environments, if you will. Catalina is world’s away yet still within the confines of Los Angeles County. Getting Here Catalina Express has transported millions of people between the mainland and Avalon or Two Harbors in … [Read more...]

Without An Address, You Can’t Go Home

June 15, 2013 by Tom Bentley21 Comments

When I lived in Las Vegas, my title at United Parcel Service was "Bad Address Clerk." Because Vegas is a town of drifters, grifters and shifters of identity, packages would continually go astray, paralleled by the wanderings of their addressees, who in a month's time in Vegas might have changed their residence—and their jobs, spouses and perhaps even their sex—two or three times. And then disappeared. So my shelves were filled with boxes large … [Read more...]

How Cuba Changed my Perception of Humanity and Restored Hope

June 10, 2013 by Andrea MacEachern2 Comments

I’ve taken a number of great vacations in my lifetime. Each vacation I’ve taken has left me with fond memories, valuable lessons, new friends, new-found knowledge and a new outlook on my surroundings and the world at large but one recent vacation, in particular, left me with more than I could ever imagine gaining from a week-long trip.  I didn’t have to travel very far to this destination.  In fact, I technically didn’t even have to leave the … [Read more...]

Top activities for a fantastic family Summer

June 10, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Butlins, a historic camp in Skegness England first opened in 1936. Famous for their red coats and appealing to families they continue to attract people for family vacations. They have grown since that first camp, most recently opening up a ocean hotel and spa which oddly enough features a snow cave! Not long ago they reached out asking for me to come up with some of my favorite family activities. For short trips including spending weekend … [Read more...]

Back to Europe!

June 9, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

After a smooth flight from California on SAS airline we arrived in Copenhagen. My friend Emil decided to use the restroom and I followed him blindly. Unfortunately he walked straight into the women's restroom. I caught myself and saw the sign at the last minute; we were both very tired from jet lag and in this hazy state both the men's and women's restroom signs looked the same! I then waited - and waited some more. I looked around to see if … [Read more...]

Our Family’s History with Volvo – Anticipating the Volvo Factory Tour in Gothenburg Sweden

June 7, 2013 by Dave2 Comments

In anticipation of our Volvo Brand Experience tour at the Volvo factory in Gothenburg Sweden today (in conjunction with their Car + Vacation offering), I thought I would reminisce a little about our family's pleasant long history with this particular automobile. As long as I can remember, my family has owned a Volvo, usually two and sometimes three. But I did not receive my first Volvo until my last year of college. My sister let me use it for … [Read more...]
