Mountains of Africa

October 20, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Mountains of Africa by Duncan Souchon Often "mountains", are not usually mentioned in the same breath when discussing Africa. Jungles, big game, safari, sand dunes, sure - but not mountains! And if a mountain is mentioned it is always Mt. Kilimanjaro. This book debunks any myths that Africa is flat and or completely covered in jungles. Pictures of jagged snow and ice covered mountains could be taken anywhere in the world. Mountains of Africa … [Read more...]

Scandalous Metropolitan

October 9, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Scandalous Metropolitan by Kim Laughton and Holly Stephens is one of the more unusual books that has come across our desk. It represents three years of work photographing Tokyo. The inside cover can almost be used as a mirror it is so reflective. In a way this is only a foreshadow of the book's content. This is a photography book that captures reflections of of the "coolest city in the world" with photos loosely capturing a 24 hour period. … [Read more...]

Postcards from Europe

September 11, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Postcards from Europe by Rick Steves Rather than being a formal guidebook listing where to eat, what to do, where to stay etc, this is a refreshing at times entertaining collection of experiential stories and people that Rick has met during his travels in Europe. From the "coffee shops" in Amsterdam to the Mediterranean beauty of the Cinque Terre along the Italian Riviera, Steves brings Europe to life. Over 35 years of traveling to Europe … [Read more...]

Anguilla is a tropical paradise of tranquility

August 6, 2010 by Phyllis SteinbergLeave a Comment

Thirty three beaches beckon tourists I didn't see any Kentucky Fried Chicken or Burger King franchises on the island of Anguilla. In fact, I didn't locate any chain restaurants on the island. A local told me that Subway once opened a restaurant on the island, but it didn't last long. There also are no large cruise ships, no casinos and no nude bathing. Cruise ships can't go to the island because there isn't a port large enough to handle them. … [Read more...]

Addicted

August 4, 2010 by Nicole GallegoLeave a Comment

Hello, my name is Nicole, and I am an addict. Hello Nicole. The realization of my addiction came at the point where most addictions come, in a dark, dingy hotel room, alone, surrounded by pink pills. The only difference was that I did not have a needle up my arm and I was not in the center of downtown LA. I was in Puerto Rico, and was in my right, conscious state of mine (which I don't know if that makes it better or worse.) As I laid … [Read more...]
