Peace, Love and Vodka

March 7, 2013 by Allison Tibaldi1 Comment

The Woodstock Festival took place in New York State’s Catskill Mountains in 1969. Whether you lived through it or were born decades later, Woodstock is the stuff of legends, three days of peace, love and music. Rock and roll giants such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Grateful Dead and many other icons preformed. Though called Woodstock, the concert didn’t actually take place in the town of Woodstock. It took place in the rural community … [Read more...]

From the Outside In: My Reflections as a Non-Muslim Wearing the Burqa in Silicon Valley

February 26, 2013 by Elizabeth17 Comments

My curiosity to try wearing the most conservative Muslim, black Burqa drapery in California overcame my dread that I would be found out by a Muslim who might eagerly approach me as any of us might do when we find "our kind" in a foreign land.  I was fearful of offending, or appearing to make light of a serious cultural tradition. It took an immense amount of courage to overcome my trepidation. But at last I decided to just go for it. Logically … [Read more...]

Hidden Treasures of El Salvador

January 29, 2013 by Carolan Nathan8 Comments

Hidden yet in plain sight is the poor but plentiful country of El Salvador in Central America. Bound on one side by the brilliant blue waters of the South Pacific Ocean, cornered by Honduras and Guatemala it is a country of many different facets each one shining light upon its varied attractions. Mountains, tropical rain forests, sugar plantations and the ever present pounding of surf on sandy beaches, add up to a traveller’s dream but … [Read more...]

Traveling in the North Country Fair… Part 2 The Spirit of the Catskills

January 15, 2013 by Richard BangsLeave a Comment

Before arriving at a new place we all carry the luggage of pre-conceptions. There are usually holes in this kit; we’re almost always wrong, at least to some extent, about our notions. My idea of the Catskills came from two very different periods, the live television run of the 1950s; and the Summer of Love in 1969, the year of Woodstock. As a young boy I would run home from school every day to turn on the TV and drink in whatever show or … [Read more...]

Dalian China Greetings

December 13, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Greetings from Dalian China. This and the last city we visited of Shenyang would EACH be the second largest city in all of the USA! Here is a stat to chew on that I read in the latest issue of Conde Naste Traveler, not sure if its true or not, but it read something like this, "China has 370 cities with populations of between 1 and 5 million, the United States has eight - nineteen China cities have populations of more than 10 million - more than … [Read more...]

Puerto Rico Offers Postcard Perfect Getaway

September 15, 2012 by Phyllis SteinbergLeave a Comment

The vibrant music, cultural and culinary scene in Puerto Rico offers vacationers of all ages a stunning array of activities. This was my third visit to this colorful and congenial island and I jumped right into the mix at the legendary El San Juan Resort and Casino located on a two-mile beach in San Juan’s Isla Verde district. At the El San Juan, I encountered the locals dancing to the beat of sassy salsa rhythms. This happening occurs on … [Read more...]

Club Med Villages at a Glance, Guest Post

September 1, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

No two destinations are exactly the same, so it's no surprise that Club Med villages have stayed away from a "cookie cutter" model. There are a few items you'll find at every village and many different types of villages to choose from. What You'll Find at Every Village CM has been around since the 1950s, and in that time have established a more-than-just-popular resort routine. Here are some elements you'll find in every village. GOs: The … [Read more...]
