In addition, a local charity is always featured at each meetup (this month its Project Angel Food and a representative gives a short … [Read more...]
Flam Norway
We find ourselves under the grey skies at the marina in flam Norway overlooking the beautiful fjord. Another blog iPhone update! We are slowly making our way to western Norway fighting the cold rain and grey skies for the past week. Today we became uber excited upon seeing the sun for the first time in Norway. This was as the train cruised past the impressive glaciers on top of Europe's highest plateau. The last hour of today's train ride … [Read more...]
Villa d’Este in Tivoli
The first time I visited Rome a couple of years I stayed for over a week in one of the Rome apartments which was plenty of time to see the most important in the city, but also a couple of other monuments and sights that are outside of the city. My favorite sights in Rome by far were the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum and the Sistine Chapel inside of the Vatican. We also did a few daytrips to take full advantage of the surroundings. My … [Read more...]
A Quick Guide to El Rastro in Madrid
If you are familiar with flea markets it is no secret that people that frequent these types of markets aren't simply interested in purchasing something (most of the time cheap, but already used). Flea markets are attractive for the thrill of negotiating, the curiosities one finds and people watching due to the eclectic mix of people you will see. If you rent apartments in Madrid you can't miss out on the experience of El Rastro which is … [Read more...]
Robert Young Pelton: Author, Filmmaker, Journalist, Adventurer
We recently had a chance to ask Robert about his travels, current projects, his life spent traveling to "dangerous places" and the unique perspectives he has gained from his years on the road. Q. When did you get hooked on traveling? Was it a particular trip or event? I lived in a car when I was 16 and picked fruit for a living. A year later I bought a $150 ocean liner ticket from New York to Southampton on the SS Canberra and … [Read more...]
Europe Trip Highlights
The following are some highlights from our latest trip to Europe: Partying late late in Belgrade Serbia - awesome party town, night clubs on old boats in the river. This was going to be museum-less trip, but we made exception for Nikola Tesla museum in Belgrade - we visited the museum and were duly impressed with the exhibits in action and hearing about his life on the guided tour Budapest - Buda Thai restaurant, one of best Thai … [Read more...]
Select Highlights of South East Europe
These are some of the highlights of visiting select locations in Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro and Serbia. This trip was totally unscripted and unplanned. All we had were our plane tickets to Europe. We used public transportation to get around - buses, trains, city trams and metros where available. Note that while distances on the map don't look that far from each other especially along the Dalmatian Coast, the roads are narrow, windy and very … [Read more...]
Hanging out in London
We arrived in London after a 2.5 hour flight from Split Croatia. We love the budget airlines in Europe - last minute prices are the same as reserving your flights ahead of time for a number of the airlines. Wizz Air, Easy Jet, Ryan Air etc. London of course is one of the world's major cities - its easy to get lost in the city and its historical attractions. One is never bored for things to do here! There are world class museums - the Tate Modern … [Read more...]
Kotor Montenegro
We are chilling high above the scenic town of Kotor (rhymes with Motor) situated in this amazing, southern most Fjord in all of Europe. We are staying with a family in their home in the hills above the main part of town. The city is lit up, the breeze warm, and the musty earthy smell of the surrounding fig trees all around us. We are also enjoying a late harvest dessert wine from Oremus, one of Hungary's finest wineries in the Tokaj region. Not … [Read more...]
