People I met on the Romanian train ride – Part 1

January 20, 2018 by Teh Chin Liang2 Comments

Travelling by train is an easy and affordable way to see Romania as the country offers an extensive rail network connecting all major cities and towns. Its official website provides comprehensive train timetables and fare information. During my visit to Romania, I chose train as my means of transportation to whisk me from one city to the other. The experience was both exhilarating and intimidating to me.  Why does it present me with these … [Read more...]

Fort Collins is home to over 20 unique, successful breweries. Some are nationally recognized, and for good reason, but don’t miss out on the hidden gems this college town has to offer. Use this guide to brewery hop and you’ll hit the best local microbreweries, and popular companies too! New Belgium Brewing Company New Belgium takes number one for a couple reasons. The Moroccan Sahara. A Sunset Camel Ride in Erg Chebbi.

January 14, 2018 by Pete Martin2 Comments

It has been a long day, yet one that has been extremely enjoyable. Two days in a car would not have been a preferred choice after my disastrous week of cycling in the Atlas Mountains but Mousa, my guide, has made the right calls with stops for both the sights on the way and for breaks, as well as sensing when to chat and when to leave me to doze. The further we drive - the further into the desert we go - the better the scenery. We are roughly … [Read more...]

The Oltrepo Pavese – Milan’s Secret Wine Region

January 10, 2018 by Stef Smulders2 Comments

oltrepo pavese wine region

Though frequently called the Tuscany of the North of Italy, the Oltrepò Pavese in Lombardy, only 40 miles south of Milan, is fairly unknown abroad. Tourists pass the area closely when travelling to the real Tuscany, to Umbria or further south. This is a pity as the Oltrepò really offers something worthwhile for almost every tourist, especially food and wine lovers. The area offers smooth hills, medieval villages and castles, panoramic views, … [Read more...]

Je Me Souviens Quebec / I Remember Quebec

January 6, 2018 by Abdul Rastagar3 Comments

“Quebec is the most beautiful city in North America I’ve seen.” – Sebastian Bach Leaving aside that Sebastian has quite clearly never been to Puebla, Mexico, I am inclined to agree with him. Quebec, indeed, is a most fanciful city, romantically trapped in an era long gone and full of Old World charm. I first visited it on a day trip from Montreal with my dad fifteen years ago. Dare I steal Quebec’s honored motto of “Je me souviens” (I … [Read more...]

An Exciting Trip to a Renaissance Festival

January 4, 2018 by Craig HebertLeave a Comment

Horse hooves are pounding the ground at the Louisiana Renaissance Festival! Then- BAM! A wooden lance strikes armor, wood splinters fly and both knights are layed-out on the ground. I hear a member of the audience ask someone, "Ya think this is fake?" This is asked as the wobbly knights stand up, wood splinters from the lances are scattered on the ground and the sand and dirt pour from the suits of armor. It is a performance, some of it may be … [Read more...]

Manhattan’s Korean Way

December 29, 2017 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

What I love most about New York, is the diversity of people and cultures that mix and mingle without even thinking twice about it. Walking down the street, you are more likely to hear any one of a large array of foreign languages than you are to hear English. This could include Chinese, Indian, Russian, German, Hebrew, Arabic, Portuguese, Urdu.... You name it and you'll probably hear it. And each group brings with it its own culture and history … [Read more...]

Curacao, One of my Favorite Islands in the Caribbean

December 25, 2017 by Dave26 Comments

Our introduction to Curaçao wasn't an awe inspiring inspirational place of stunning natural beauty (for instance a secluded white sand beach framed by a crescent shoreline and aquamarine waters). Rather it was in a rough part of Willemstad, the capital city. A friend and I found ourselves wandering around the dark streets late at night in search of food in a neighborhood near our hostel. We passed walls topped with razor sharp barbed wire - … [Read more...]

Tofino, British Columbia: Eating on the Edge of the Earth

December 25, 2017 by Allison TibaldiLeave a Comment

Tofino is a community on Vancouver Island’s unspoiled West Coast. Pristine Pacific waters are a thriving habitat for orcas, grey and humpback whales, seals, puffins and sea lions, while it’s old-growth forest is lush with plant and animal life. Adventure seekers come to surf the waves, fish for abundant salmon and hike to hidden hot springs. At first glance, this stunning little town with around 2,000 year-round residents appears to be an … [Read more...]
