Lisa Niver: RTW Traveler

April 16, 2013 by Dave3 Comments

I first met Lisa a number of years ago at an event in Los Angeles. Her unbridled enthusiasm for International travel is truly contagious. Few people are lucky to go on one Round the World Trip (RTW) in a lifetime; Lisa has been privileged to experience two RTW trips and in fact at the time of this original interview, was currently in the midst of her 2nd RTW trip. The circumstances around receiving this interview were somewhat convoluted (as … [Read more...]

December 21, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

My Soul to Take This by Yrsa Sigurdardottir is a murder mystery (actually two of them), set in Snofellsnes, a peninsula on Western Iceland about 120km from Reykjavik. Author Sigurdardottir weaves a tangled web of mystery, introducing multiple suspects, an element of the other world while always leaving the reader somewhat in doubt as to who the real culprit is. The story is not always what it seems as it unfolds. 3/4 of the way through the … [Read more...]

Sticker Shock!

September 16, 2011 by Dave2 Comments

Norway has got to be one of the most expensive countries in the world...oh and along with Iceland perhaps and maybe Switzerland. Here are a few examples of prices we paid: Small Bowl of Pho (soup) at a hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant: nearly $20 US dollars! Two chicken drumsticks, a small cup of rice/veggies and a fruit drink (non alcoholic): nearly $30 dollars! Aside from the high prices there is plenty to do in Oslo under the … [Read more...]

The Land of Fire and Ice

October 16, 2006 by Solomon Rastagar2 Comments

I don't know how many times I have flown between Europe and North America and each time, about halfway over the North Atlantic, glanced down on a mysterious and rugged looking island. Big swaths seemed covered in glaciers. But not everything. It looked largely empty, but I could still make out clear imprints of humanity from thirty five thousand feet in the air. Mostly along the coastal lowlands, where the fields had a fresh green color. Just … [Read more...]
