DENMARK, NORWAY AND SWEDEN LAUNCH ‘FACES OF SCANDINAVIA’ TO SPOTLIGHT INSPIRING TRAVEL DESTINATIONS

NEW YORK, November 9, 2010 – VisitDenmark, Innovation Norway, VisitSweden and Icelandair have created the joint campaign ‘Faces of Scandinavia’ in which famous Scandinavians are promoting their favorite local travel destinations. The purpose is to inspire U.S. travelers to visit Scandinavia. The ‘Faces of Scandinavia’ campaign promotes Denmark, Norway, and Sweden as three European destinations that combined make for one exciting vacation, with Icelandair as the preferred airline. Icelandair has convenient service to Copenhagen, Stockholm and four airports in Norway. Additionally, several prominent Scandinavians are participating in the campaign.

The campaign website – faces of Scandanavia is the hub for information about local travel destinations in each of the countries and gives visitors the chance to win a three-country travel package to experience the countries firsthand. To further support the campaign, Icelandair is offering special low fares from the U.S. to destinations throughout Scandinavia.

The ‘Faces of Scandinavia’

Several prominent Scandinavians who live and/or work in the U.S. share their favorite travel destinations on the ‘Faces of Scandinavia’ campaign website. Participants include:

Madcon – a multi-platinum award winning Norwegian hip hop duo
Henrik Lundqvist – a Swedish professional ice hockey goalkeeper for the NHL’s New York Rangers
Thure Lindhardt – a Danish actor, most known for his role in the movie Angels & Demons
Marcus Samuelsson – a Swedish world-class chef based in New York, and the winner of ‘Top Chef Masters’ on Bravo TV

To enter the ‘Faces of Scandinavia’ contest, Americans can visit. There, they can click on the ‘Faces of Scandinavia’ to read personal travel recommendations from well-known Scandinavians, leave a comment on a travel story and post it on Facebook to be entered to win. The contest is open now through January 14, 2010.

First prize winner will receive:

Two roundtrip tickets with Icelandair to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm
Two night hotel accommodations in each city
Overnight cruise from Oslo to Copenhagen
Train from Copenhagen to Stockholm
City Cards for sightseeing in each city

Second prize winner will receive a 16GB iPad, including the Guidepal travel application.

Icelandair Travel Deals

Icelandair, the flagship carrier of Iceland since 1937, is offering a special travel deal in conjunction with ‘Faces of Scandinavia.’ Travelers can fly to Scandinavia from New York’s JFK from $479* round-trip for travel January 15 – March 31, 2011 when booked by November 14, 2010. Seats are limited and restrictions apply. To complete their Scandinavian stay, travelers can combine airfare with special hotel offers, including the “3 nights for the price of 2″* package.

*RT fare is based on travel from JFK to Stockholm. Price is exclusive of applicable taxes and official charges by destination of approximately $100-$190 USD, per person including the September 11th Security Fee of $2.50 per U.S. enplanement. Hotel stays are based on availability, blackout dates and other restrictions may apply
