A Visit to a Special Part of the World, The Tuomotos

June 1, 2021 by Dave5 Comments

We arrived at the tiny aerodrome on the island of Rangiroa in the Tuamotu archipelago of French Polynesia - marveling at the narrow air strip surrounded on both sides by aquamarine waters. Unlike all passengers we did not have any hotel reservations and we lingered around until all the passengers left and the steel gates began to close - completely locking down the small airport building. One guy walked up to us and asked us if we needed … [Read more...]

Escape to Bodega Bay

April 13, 2021 by Angela Matano2 Comments

Moving from Los Angeles to the tiny town of Mendocino (population 855) turned out to be one of the most unusual decisions I have ever made. The natural beauty and tranquility act like a balm to the world’s troubles (politics! fires!), but, it should come as little surprise, meeting people while masked up and social distancing has proven difficult. On the other hand, as the world opens up a bit, traveling in both Mendocino and Sonoma Counties, … [Read more...]

See the Cherry Blossoms in Alexandria, VA, Late March The last week of March, the DC Metro area lights up bright pink with the peak bloom of the Cherry Blossoms and Alexandria is filled with a variety of cherry blossom trees of its own from delicate white Yoshinos to fluffy pink Kwanzans that eventually speckle the cobblestone roads pink. Additionally, the city is connected to D.C. via water taxi, Metrorail and bike share so exploring the blooms … [Read more...]

Norway has the last few years seen a growth in fascinating architecture and design. Winchcombe Farm in Warwickshire

September 20, 2020 by Samantha PriestleyLeave a Comment

September had promised to stay fine, and so we headed off again, this time to Warwickshire. I’ve been to Stratford-Upon-Avon before, but other than that I didn’t know this area at all, so a couple of days spent exploring felt like just what we needed. We were staying at Winchcombe Farm, and it became clear pretty soon after arriving that we might not be doing as much exploring as we’d thought. Winchcombe Farm had everything we needed and wanted, … [Read more...]

Pursuing Ski Resorts for both Winter and Summer Sports Activities

April 12, 2020 by DaveLeave a Comment

My first introduction to ski resorts was with my father at a very young age - we would pack into the car and drive several hours to the ski slopes and spend our afternoons combing up and down the slopes for coins and jewelry. Initially it was just walking while carefully studying the ground beneath our feet. You would be surprised what people lost during the ski season - we found beer cans still cold sitting in the snow, capri sun drinks - and … [Read more...]

A Crazy Stop in La Paz, Boliva

February 1, 2020 by Dave11 Comments

Upon arriving in South America I entered a very familiar airport, Jorge Chavez International Airport. I lingered in Lima for a refreshing shower in the hotel directly across from the airport. Walked back to the departures terminal and tried to sleep for a few hours on the hard floor. Loud music playing at 130am followed by staff cleaning the floors. No sleep tonight. Boarded next flight. Arrived in Cuzco - exited the airport with just enough time … [Read more...]

Planning a Trip to Africa to see the Gorillas

January 16, 2020 by Dave15 Comments

I have been to Africa a number of times and always gravitate towards the sub-Saharan eastern part of the continent. One of the greatest thrills on the planet is to be on a big game safari in Africa. The wildlife is prolific at times from parts of Kenya down through South Africa but especially in the Serengeti - with herds of wildebeest, plenty of giraffe, elephants and other rarer sightings. But until now, a visit to see gorillas in the wild … [Read more...]
