How to Avoid a Car Hire Horror Story Abroad

December 8, 2018 by Suzanne ELeave a Comment

Travel represents an escape. Something different, dangerous, and romantic. That’s why we all love seeing the photos and reading the blog posts. We imagine ourselves right there, seeing it for ourselves. The colour of India. The charm of Paris. The tree tops and swinging jungle life of Borneo. Beats the grey suits of the Monday morning board room, don’t you think? Of course, that one perfect selfie with circling Tiger sharks in the Gulf of … [Read more...]

A Remarkable Stay at Brewery Gulch Inn

December 1, 2018 by Abdul Rastagar3 Comments

Nestled among groves of pines and redwoods along the rugged northern California coast, one finds the Brewery Gulch Inn, a remarkable hotel with an equally remarkable story. On multiple occasions, it has been voted one of the top hotels in both the US and in the world by Travel & Leisure Magazine as well as by Conde Naste. It is situated off California’s Highway 1, just south of the town of Mendocino, where the clear waters of the Pacific … [Read more...]

Introduction to Havana

November 22, 2018 by Dave14 Comments

I learned that it takes a few days to warm to Cuba - but when you do, its alluring embrace grabs you with all it has and doesn't let go. The colorfully dressed person in front of me boarded the plane without any shoes and left the plane without any shoes. Never seen that before. Following a very quick wait in customs, I then caught a taxi to Havana for 30 CUC, the Cuban currency (the airport is about 30-45 minutes from the center of the city). … [Read more...]

Road Trip Part 1: Branson to Bisbee

October 7, 2018 by Steve TaylorLeave a Comment

On April 1st, 2012 I set out on my first road trip from Northern Indiana to Southern California. By November 2014 I had added four more similar trips, each time taking a different route. It's easy to say that the journey is better than the destination, but the reality is, the longer the road trip, the greater the monotony. Fortunately, there is relief that comes from finding great places to stop, stretch your legs, take some pictures, get … [Read more...]

How I Twice Failed in Saint Augustine (and still won)

September 7, 2018 by Abdul RastagarLeave a Comment

Nope, it's not Jamestown. Nor is it Plymouth. And neither is it the lost colony of Roanoke. Bet you didn't know, the oldest permanent European settlement in the US was founded in St. Augustine, Florida by Spanish conquistadors as early as 1565. It predates the next oldest European city (Santa Fe, New Mexico) by more than 4 decades. As of the time of this writing, the city has been continuously inhabited for 453 years. By North American standards, … [Read more...]

Tourism to the United States generally revolves around the biggest and most famous cities. New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Miami, Chicago....
