Colima, Mexico – Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Plaza Principal is the site of several interesting attractions. As I walked through this part of town, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the streets and sidewalks . This plaza is surrounded by the Liberty Garden which contains numerous painted white iron benches (great place to sit down and relax). Various shops and commercial businesses are located on the exterior of the plaza but aren't touristy souvenir type shops, as found in other … [Read more...]

Mt. Shasta, CA – Nearby Towns

by Dave · Leave a Comment

DUNSMUIR is located directly off of the 5 freeway about a 15 minute drive south of Mt. Shasta City. Charming and picturesque are often over used words in the travel writing world - but these two words perfectly describe this town. If you are arriving by car, park your vehicle curbside in the historic center of town located along Dunsmuir Ave and take some time to soak up the charm of this town on foot. A town built for photographers. Also known … [Read more...]

Europe – The Locals

by Dave · Leave a Comment

I think that whatever country you are traveling in you will meet the bad apples as well as the good oranges. On my first journey through Europe I met some very helpful people who went out of their way to give me advice, show me certain areas, or give me help. Then I met some overly stressed people who all they had to say was "stick it between your teeth". I could definitely tell a general difference in personality between different cultures … [Read more...]

Reno, NV – Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

For a town of this size there are a fair number of attractions that are worth seeing. BaseCamp Reno is extremely unique; it is the world's tallest climbing wall (either indoor or outdoor) - in this case it is located outside on the east wall of the Whitney Peak Hotel (tall is a theme here - this hotel is appropriately named for the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states, Mt. Whitney - located in neighboring California). The climbing … [Read more...]

Reno, NV – Casinos

by Dave · Leave a Comment

For those serious gamblers, for those who perhaps just dabble in gambling, and for those who don't gamble but want to see the action - Reno offers a pleasing diversity of casinos. And most of these casinos feature a large hotel, often in a separate building from the casino (sometimes connected by walkways). The majority of the casinos feature doors that must be pushed open - and once you push through a second set of doors, you are deposited into … [Read more...]

Reno, NV – Lodging

by Dave · 3 Comments

Accommodation in Reno is diverse and varied from the larger casinos to many vintage "one-star" motels - usually one or two stories and often in a state of various decay. Reno is lacking in boutique hotels. Prices for hotel rooms tend to be fairly affordable, perhaps somewhat subsidized or supported by the gambling industry. All Phone Numbers are in the 775 area code. Please also visit our Reno Casino page for additional information about … [Read more...]

Guadalajara, Mexico – Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Barranca and Zoologico Guadalajara . Both attractions are located about a 20 minute ride from the center of the city. Zoologico Guadalajara is located on the edge of the Barranca - a 2000+ foot gorge cut deep into the heart of the earth by centuries of river erosion. Slightly similar looking to parts of the Grand Canyon in the United States, minus the bold colors. As one descends to the bottom, the climate becomes more tropical and fruits such … [Read more...]
