My Guide to the Algarve

July 27, 2016 by Becky YoungLeave a Comment

The Algarve seems to be getting a bad-rap lately.  People imagine hordes of European holidaymakers flocking there for their annual trip.  But that’s not the case, in my experience.  With its incredible red-cliffed coastline and beautiful, quaint little towns and villages, the Algarve has all the ingredients of the perfect relaxing holiday that you should be dying to go on. Where to stay Resorts are the accommodation of choice in the … [Read more...]

Life’s a Beach and THEN … by Julia Roberts

July 1, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

This is the first book in the Liberty Sands trilogy by UK based Julia Roberts. It centers on a secret travel blogger Holly who finds her life changed by the individuals she meets during a week in Mauritius where she is reviewing a resort under the cloak of a manufactured story to conceal her true identity. She falls in love with a handsome writer - a holiday romance that digs into the depths of her soul. But she guards secrets just as her … [Read more...]

Discover Nakoma: A Guide to Mountain-Town Hospitality

June 15, 2016 by Preethi Chandrasekhar2 Comments

When I was initially invited to be a guest at the Lodge at Nakoma, I admit I had to look up its whereabouts. I was very familiar with the Tahoe region of Northern California, what with the numerous skiing and camping trips I used to indulge in (and still do occasionally), but hadn't explored past Lake Tahoe. The Nakoma Resort is less than an hour northwest from Truckee/Lake Tahoe and is nestled amidst the pine trees, with the majestic Sierras as … [Read more...]

The American’s Guide to Martinique

June 2, 2016 by Chris Picardi6 Comments

We decided to go to Martinique purely because we found extremely affordable tickets nonstop from Boston. Norwegian Airlines (yes that is a real airline) now has a direct flight from Boston to Fort de France for $220 which almost sounds too good to be true. Prior to stumbling upon these flights, we knew absolutely nothing about the island, but after our week-long adventure we consider ourselves experts and wish to share our new-found knowledge … [Read more...]

Heli Ski Alaska? Heli Yes!

May 11, 2016 by Susan Betteridge2 Comments

My penultimate bucket list ski experience has always been to heli ski in Alaska—miles of untouched powder and fresh lines for days. No lift lines, no resort creature comforts and nothing but badass skiing. As my blog will tell you, after a year of planning I was pretty stoked when my brother and I joined up with Dean Cummings’ H2O Guides to heli ski the 4,000 square-mile playground called the Chuggach Mountains near Valdez, Alaska. Whether … [Read more...]

First Day Exploring St. Kitts

April 27, 2016 by Dave2 Comments

I met a Brazilian traveler today - he has not traveled much at all and this was his first time to the Caribbean. He did not speak a word of English so I ended up helping translate through his language barrier using Spanish as our common language. After what I estimated to be a 15 minute walk into town from the B&B where I am staying - turned into a hour, I was more than ready to rent a motorbike. I found a shop run by a man named Matrix who … [Read more...]

Red Eyes & Rum: My Arrival to St. Thomas, USVI

April 17, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

From Jet Blue coach to Spirit Air coach I quickly discovered the differences in seating space. The flight I was on from the 'lower 48' had the most legroom of any standard coach seat I've ever sat in. Then it was on to a Spirit Air flight connection in Fort Lauderdale - down to St. Thomas, USVI. I had slimmed down my normal light weight backpack to my camera and laptop and a few thin shorts and shirts. My plan was to wear all the shorts and … [Read more...]

Exploring Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

March 8, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

Today we skirted the edges of Santo Domingo - the oldest city in North America founded by Europeans. It dates from 1496. Now we find ourselves in the small but very busy town of Las Terrenas on the Samaná Peninsula - about a 2.5 hour drive from Santo Domingo. Kite Surfing is popular here - several outfitters offer introductory courses - usually lasting 6 - 9 hours spread out over several days. We became inspired by the combination of … [Read more...]
