Gastronomical wonder at my fingertips

July 3, 2013 by Aradhana MahtaniLeave a Comment

“Chicas! ¡venido a la cena!!!” Quima’s voice travelled through the corridor and my eyes sprung open! Thank goodness - dinner was served. I looked at my watch: 9:23 pm. We’re making progress, at least from the usual 10 o’clock. Sometimes I wondered how my gastric juices could hold out for so long, but maybe I was starting to get accustomed to Spanish standard time. Breakfast at eight AM, a snack at eleven, heavy lunch at two, Tapas or merienda … [Read more...]

Food as an affirmation of identity

July 3, 2013 by Aradhana MahtaniLeave a Comment

Well, its that time of the year again. Summer holidays are over and I’m all set to leave for another semester of College in the States. No Bombay for the next 4 months and I better have everything I need. As I zip my suitcase the aroma of a dozen intoxicating Indian spices escape to me and I know with the ingredients of my favorite foods intact, home will never be too far away – even in my messy dorm room kitchen in the middle of Lancaster, … [Read more...]

Kodagu (Coorg) Southwest Karnataka, India

PART ONE Nature’s show On long circuitous winding roads, close your eyes to keep away the tumultuous feeling that erupts as bile climbs the ravines of your own inner system. Suffer motion sickness on a mountain road or keep Avamin and lime ready. Or just stick your eyes out, arrest your breath and stare in awe. This is for what you’ve escaped the humdrum of your congested city life. Wide vistas of undulating green and inhabitation of small … [Read more...]

A Paranormal Papparazzo Stalks the Ghost of Copernicus

July 2, 2013 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

Time Traveling to Copernicus’s “Crib” in Torun (Poland) John M. Edwards stalks the heretical ghost of Polish astronomer Nicholaus Copernicus back to his hometown: Torun, Poland. Here is a question nobody, not even Steven Hawking (A Brief History of Time) nor Erich von Daniken (Chariots of the Gods), can answer: How large is the universe? How can it be infinite if it is at the same time also “expanding”? I decided the only scientist worth … [Read more...]

Oaxaca and Huatulco Mexico Tourism Dinner, Los Angeles

June 22, 2013 by Dave2 Comments

I recently attended a Oaxaca promotion dinner at Geulaguetza restaurant - an authentic restaurant serving Oaxacan cuisine surprisingly located in the heart of Koreatown Los Angeles. One of our contributors and photographers Michelle Yam recently went on a trip to Huataluco along the coast in the state of Oaxaca and invited me to this dinner. The presentation was to promote tourism to the region, inspire and excite us about the wonders of … [Read more...]

Car + Vacation, Volvo Factory Tour, Gothenburg Sweden

June 20, 2013 by Dave1 Comment

Recently I was in Sweden to help promote Volvo's Car + Vacation program for overseas car buyers - sponsored by Volvo, Visit Sweden, West Sweden Tourism and Skåne Tourism. This was an appropriate trip for me; at last count, my immediate family has owned six volvos - since my grandfather purchased my mom's first car in 1969. That vehicle was a new 2-door 1968 white Volvo that they spent a grand total of $2,300 at the time. My aunt followed the path … [Read more...]

Ancient To Modern in Miami

June 18, 2013 by Penny Sadler4 Comments

Spanish Monastery, Miami, Florida @PennySadler 2014

Imagine a trip to Miami - fun in the sun, sand, and on the water; palm trees swaying in the breeze, tropical fruity drinks, tanning lotion, and dancing until dawn. But there's more to Miami than beaches and bars. It's a city full of history, culture, and architecture. These little gems - these not so typical tourist attractions - really tell the story of the city. Each time I go to Miami, I find some new cultural or historical treasure. It’s a … [Read more...]

Sofiero Palace and Gardens

June 17, 2013 by Dave1 Comment

My visit to Sweden this time was decidedly different than my previous. Enduring cold weather, cloudy skies and drizzly conditions during my last visit we spent much of our time indoors drinking hot chocolate, eating sushi and visiting with family who live in Malmö. During the entirety of that trip, the cold weather followed us up to Oslo Norway - and then over to Stavanger and Bergen with fleeting glimpses of the gorgeous fjords tantalizingly … [Read more...]

Finding the real Bahamas one drink at a time

June 16, 2013 by Paul KandarianLeave a Comment

OK, so I went to the Bahamas once before, as part of a cruise, putting in at Nassau and instantly clouding my view of the Bahamas as a whole, perceiving a place of giant cruise ships, sweaty tourists, over-priced gift shops and sheer sensory overload. Then most recently I visited Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina in Marsh Harbour on Great Abaco Island, a sedately unhurried resort, and was proven wrong. That, and having a Goombay Smash … [Read more...]

Road trip through France & Spain in a campervan

June 14, 2013 by Vincent ClementLeave a Comment

Our adventure started in France - we were so excited. Our road trip was planned; it would be our first adventure together. It happened so quickly - at the beginning of last summer. My girlfriend and I booked a campervan equipped by Campy Camper, in Biarritz, France for one week. We both had been dreaming of travelling this way for a long time - in fact ever since we read "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac... So we took a train to Paris (where we live) … [Read more...]
