We leave for our trip to the Deep South with 38 other Bengalis. We are the only western tourists on this trip - we will fly back because of the great distance and terrible delays that plague the river ways this time of year (usually fog related). Interestingly the airline we fly back on is called United....Airways that is. We are seeking out sightings of the rare Royal Bengal Tiger, one of the last few places in the world that you can see this … [Read more...]
Fun at Los Angeles Events
Rode in to town on the 5 on the inspirational wings of Don MaClean's American Pie blasting away on KRTH 101.1 FM. Needed some inspiration in the form of music as I certainly wasn't getting it from staring into the haze and smog that often hits the Los Angeles area this time of year. I was in town for only about a day and it was packed with events. I always like how whenever I spend any sort of time in Los Angeles events just seem to materialize. … [Read more...]
Tapas in Seville
A very known trait of the people of Andalusia is that they are very open and social. There is nothing more social than sitting in a bar with an ice-cold beer and some tapas. And there is no better place to do get to know this laid-back way of life than this region's capital. So why not rent Seville apartments to get to know this culture. Here are some budget-friendly tips on where to go for a beer and some tapas: Las Coloniales/Taberna … [Read more...]
Where to listen and dance to traditional Hungarian music
As it is well known Hungary it is an exception in linguistic terms, as it's the only country in the central Europe where a non Indo-European language is spoken. This part of the world is also very peculiar for its music traditions especially because the Hungarians are making a big effort to preserve their traditional music and dance. The great Hungarian composer and pianist Bela Bartok himself has studied folk music deeply. Together with … [Read more...]
Sticker Shock!
Norway has got to be one of the most expensive countries in the world...oh and along with Iceland perhaps and maybe Switzerland. Here are a few examples of prices we paid: Small Bowl of Pho (soup) at a hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant: nearly $20 US dollars! Two chicken drumsticks, a small cup of rice/veggies and a fruit drink (non alcoholic): nearly $30 dollars! Aside from the high prices there is plenty to do in Oslo under the … [Read more...]

Europe Trip Highlights
The following are some highlights from our latest trip to Europe: Partying late late in Belgrade Serbia - awesome party town, night clubs on old boats in the river. This was going to be museum-less trip, but we made exception for Nikola Tesla museum in Belgrade - we visited the museum and were duly impressed with the exhibits in action and hearing about his life on the guided tour Budapest - Buda Thai restaurant, one of best Thai … [Read more...]
Sevilla Feeling
I spent last weekend in Tossa de Mar, a very beautiful little town on the Costa Brava a little more than 1h away from Barcelona. I went with a couple of friends. We stayed at the apartment of a friend that works there for the summer season. I arrived in Tossa Friday night and there were no specific plans for the evening yet. The friend that is working there at a restaurant for the summer is originally from Sevilla. We waited for her until … [Read more...]
Hanging out in London
We arrived in London after a 2.5 hour flight from Split Croatia. We love the budget airlines in Europe - last minute prices are the same as reserving your flights ahead of time for a number of the airlines. Wizz Air, Easy Jet, Ryan Air etc. London of course is one of the world's major cities - its easy to get lost in the city and its historical attractions. One is never bored for things to do here! There are world class museums - the Tate Modern … [Read more...]
