Atlantic City fly-by: 24 hours in ‘America’s Playground

August 3, 2026 by Angelica RobertsLeave a Comment

If you've only got one day to experience Atlantic City, don't worry. This vibrant destination packs plenty into 24 hours, from sandy beaches and historic landmarks to lively casinos, great food, and nightlife that keeps going long after the sun goes down. Nicknamed "America's Playground," it's easy to see why so many visitors keep coming back for another taste of the boardwalk lifestyle. Start your morning with a stroll along the iconic … [Read more...]

Barong Tagalog Beyond the Formal Shirt

Man wearing a custom Barong Tagalog with black embroidery

First Seeing the Barong Tagalog from the Outside My name is Anton. I'm from Siberia. In 2022, I moved to the Philippines. Before that, the Philippines meant sun, sea, and friendly people to me. Nothing unusual — a fairly standard picture for someone looking at a country from the outside. I had never heard of the Filipino shirt called the Barong Tagalog. It never occurred to me that the Philippines had such a recognizable symbol. That's how … [Read more...]

Empire Mine, Grass Valley California – August 2026

August 1, 2026 by DaveLeave a Comment

The 'big dog' was one of California's largest, most productive and longest lasting mines having been founded in 1850 (based on gold found in rock outcroppings on the surface) and remained in operation until 1956 (although it closed temporarily during World War II). This was California's richest hard rock mine. By today's pricing, this mine produced over 8 billion dollars in gold (nearly 6 million ounces). Most associated with the Bourn family, … [Read more...]

Las Vegas Beyond the Strip: How I Spent Three Days Without Losing a Fortune

July 29, 2026 by Brooke PhillipsLeave a Comment

Most visitors picture Las Vegas as four miles of casino carpet, buffet lines, and a fake Eiffel Tower. That version of the city exists, and it works hard to keep your wallet open. But the city has about 660,000 residents, and they don't spend their weekends paying $26 for a cocktail. I flew in on February 12, 2026, with a plain rule for myself: three days, under $400 total, flight not counted. I stayed off the Strip for almost all of it. I … [Read more...]

Atlantic City – The Best Places 2026

July 28, 2026 by Una TomasLeave a Comment

Atlantic City has always had a couple of personalities. There’s the version most people know: casino lights, packed restaurants, concerts, and nights that run longer than planned. Then there’s the quieter side that shows up in the morning, when people are walking the beach with coffee in hand or sitting along the Boardwalk watching the ocean. That’s probably why Atlantic City pulls people in. A weekend here can mean a little bit of everything. … [Read more...]

Tallinn has Captured my Heart

July 25, 2026 by Amanda ChalmersLeave a Comment

Tallinn

Tallinn is a city that feels like it’s been sketched from two different dreams: one medieval, one modern. Its Old Town - all cobbled lanes, spired churches and honey‑coloured stone - is a UNESCO‑listed wonder that looks almost too perfect to be real. But step beyond those ancient walls and you’ll find a city pulsing with creativity, digital innovation and a Nordic‑Baltic cool that’s entirely its own. For example, beyond the Old Town lies … [Read more...]

How to Avoid the Most Common Cruise Health Risks

July 22, 2026 by Eye TanverLeave a Comment

Cruise ship headlines can make ocean travel feel a lot riskier than it actually is. Most ruined vacations stem from ordinary, entirely preventable problems that get handled far too late. The CDC Vessel Sanitation Program typically logs only 10 to 14 total notable norovirus outbreaks across the entire cruise industry in an average year, and when you board a ship, you're entering a busy, highly managed environment where everyday issues like stomach … [Read more...]

It Stopped Feeling Like Travelling and Started Feeling Like Surviving

July 15, 2026 by Thomas MastersLeave a Comment

Playing cards in dorm room

The brutal reality check that hits every backpacker flying from SE Asia into Australia. The barman at the first pub I walked into after dropping my bag slid a schooner across the bar and said nine dollars. I handed over a tenner and stood there waiting for change that wasn't coming. He'd already moved on. I picked up the glass and did the maths in my head the way you do when you already know the answer isn't good. Here's what Southeast … [Read more...]
