Dapitan: A Living Legacy in the Philippines

October 9, 2009 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

Roused from sleep, I sat up. Something was excitingly moving at my seat that afternoon of April 14, 2007. It was 2.30 p.m., and the thrill in the voice of a woman beside me was unmistakable. "Wake up, we're about to arrive!" Over the years, I'm used to travelling to places alone: domestic and foreign. And an easy acquaintance with foreigners isn't new to me. "We must book accommodation to Dakak right away," Sandra, the German tourist … [Read more...]

Gridlock & Road Rage in the Desh

Hanging out in Dhaka now outside on a porch overlooking down on the dark restless city listing to the most peaceful soothing relaxing calming sounds of Enigma which are effectively drowning out the incessant noise of the horns below. A cool exotic breeze is flowing and this is as far from "home" as you can get. Got all our tours setup today for the rest of the trip - heading down deep into the mangrove swamps into the largest Unesco heritage site … [Read more...]

Visiting Iguazu Falls

July 10, 2009 by Dave11 Comments

Iguazu Waterfalls are among the most amazing waterfalls on the planet. Do not underestimate the time you need here - allow at least 1/2 day for the Brazilian side and at minimum a full day for the Argentina side. These falls are spread between the Brazil and Argentina border and extend up the Rio Iguacu several miles. The only similar waterfalls in comparison are Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The massive … [Read more...]

Hot Licks Ice Cream, Fairbanks Alaska – July 2009

July 1, 2009 by DaveLeave a Comment

Hot Licks Ice Cream is a gourmet ice cream shop with two locations in Fairbanks. They have been serving delicious ice cream since 1986. We have enjoyed their specialty home-made cream at their College Ave location in Fairbanks on more than one trip to this great state (this is their original location). Choose from a variety of flavors including the unique Alaska Blueberry ice cream - made from hand picked wild blue berries that grow in the hills … [Read more...]

A Story of Travel and of a Girl

June 14, 2009 by Gari Ghigo1 Comment

guy girl

This is a story of a travel and of a girl; of long ago memories. So long ago that I cannot even remember the girl's real name, nor many of the places; only that it inspired love. What better trip is there than that? It started as a mini-trip to San Francisco with a college roommate. He and I were to travel on a budget of zero dollars, excluding a full tank of gas. We wanted to see Haight-Ashbury, the hippy scene of '67. After collecting glass … [Read more...]

The Island of the Eccentrics

June 7, 2009 by Lorena Di NolaLeave a Comment

You have to be a little eccentric to live here' - said Corinna as she welcomed us to her house. To many in the village she is more than eccentric: she is a witch. Dressed in a long black gown, her hair hidden in a headscarf, she is in no hurry to fight the rumour. When the superstitious villagers saw twenty foreign women getting off the water taxi, armed with an array of lotions and potions to fight mosquitoes and prevent sunburn, they had reason … [Read more...]

Paseo Restaurant, Seattle – June 2009

June 1, 2009 by DaveLeave a Comment

Paseo Restaurant Seattle as of the time of this review, currently operates two small shoebox sized sandwich shops in the Seattle area. With a reputation such as theirs, its a wonder they haven't opened additional locations! We visited their primary restaurant, located at 4225 Fremont Ave N (Fremont neighborhood), about 3.5 miles north of downtown Seattle just off of the 99 freeway. Their specialty is Caribbean food and Cuban Sandwiches. Our … [Read more...]
