Blues Is Coming To Hollywood

Hollywood, Calif. – In these tough times of recession and uncertain future, people resort to old pacifiers – music and ‘spirits.’ The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa is offering an escape of the cool, artistic kind with the Renaissance Blues Club on select Saturday nights starting August 15 and August 29th, where the best blues bands are reinventing the genre. Imagine venting all those negative emotions and raising your spirit by listening to a cool, funky groove that moves your feet while a cool margarita or glass of Merlot waits to chill your hot body and Detox your bad mood.

The ‘harmonica convergence’ between Blues Promoter Shadow Sky and Dan Shaughnessy, Director of Sales & Marketing for the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa is how this new, badly needed blues club came about.

“I think there’s a blues revival going on around the country,” says Shadow. “L.A. has a long history of great local musical venues, especially here in Hollywood.”

“In these tough economic times, the Arts are often the first item taken off governmental agendas. We at Renaissance Hotel decided to support the most authentic American art form – the Blues,” explains Shaughnessy. “Interestingly enough, most of the great blues artists have success in Europe and Japan and not so much right here in the US. We came up with this idea to create a home in Hollywood for Blues artists and create a new ‘Renaissance’ of Blues right here at the Renaissance Hotel. Instead of just ‘keeping the blues alive’ we are committed to encouraging the creation of a new, original LA Blues style ala Chicago, Delta & Memphis Blues.”

“We do have West Coast Blues but our idea is to create a fusion of different music influences from different countries with the existing blues formats using our own LA melting pot of cultures,” explains Shadow, a musician and composer himself. “Imagine a Middle Eastern Jazz/Arabic Funk Fusion, shuffle blues composition using classical blues I-IV-V format with Hejazz, Arabic Spanish scales, instead of regular pentatonic scale and fuse traditional Arabic melodies, classical Indian concepts of composition, North African rhythmic grooves, and pure American Jazz and ‘old-school Funk’ to produce a new unique LA Blues style. Call it Ethno-Funky Blues or something like that,” adds Shadow.

The first Renaissance Blues Club Concert will take place on Saturday, August 15th from 8:00pm to 1:00am at the cool and welcoming Twist restaurant located on the second floor inside the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa, produced by Shadow’s production company Y3K GM Entertainment. The best SoCal blues bands will be performing their own brew of blues, opening the flood of creativity and bringing more variety of blues to LA’s patrons and tourists from all over the world visiting Hollywood.

“Of course kudos to our sponsor Renaissance Hotel & Spa, the best place to stay while ‘blues-ing’ in LA,” says Shadow.

The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa, located at Hollywood & Highland Center, a shopping and entertainment mecca and home to the Academy Awards ceremonies, offers 632 distinctive guest rooms, 33 suites, and the unforgettable 3,500 square foot Panorama Suite. Awarded the ENERGY STAR Label from the EPA in 2008, the property is well known as being a favorite of major production companies and business travelers alike, the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa embodies modern luxury accented by classic Hollywood charm, featuring the distinctive restaurant Twist, an outdoor pool overlooking the Hollywood Sign, world-class fitness center, and outstanding service savvy travelers have come to expect from the Renaissance brand name.
