Backpacking from Edinburgh to the Hebrides

September 15, 2008 by HostelBookersLeave a Comment

Scenic Scotland From ancient standing stones to remote mountain peaks, Scotland is packed with stunning scenery and wild countryside. It's also a surprisingly affordable destination for budget travelers thanks to a range of great hostels in Scotland catering for backpackers keen to get off the beaten path in the UK and explore some of its beautiful, unspoiled spaces. Setting Off from Edinburgh The capital, Edinburgh, makes a great … [Read more...]

My Couch Surfing

July 21, 2008 by Teh Chin LiangLeave a Comment

Couch Surfing!! What a weird term - The first time I heard of it I thought it was some sort of illegal activity. It turned out to be a club where you could offer free accommodation in your humble abode to the complete strangers who happen to visit your hometown, and you could get the same in return by requesting free stay whenever you are traveling abroad. Also it offers an opportunity for you to practice your courtesy as well as hospitality to … [Read more...]

Morocco: Where is my crown of olives?

February 20, 2006 by Solomon RastagarLeave a Comment

There is far more to Morocco, Al Maghreb, as it is known among its citizens, than I can describe in just a short little blurb. Other than the intrusions of various cultures into this part of the african continent, the geography plays a large role in shaping Morocco as well. First and foremost, the High Atlas mountain range dominates the heart of the land. Eclipsed only by Kenya's volcanic Mt. Kilimanjaro, the High Atlas rise to a maximum … [Read more...]

Sydney Beaches, Fun in the Sun

February 5, 2006 by Peter WatsonLeave a Comment

Whether you're up for a Crocodile Dundee adventure or you'd just like a taste of the Australian sun, the beaches in and around Sydney can offer you all that and more. Being in the southern hemisphere, Australia's seasons are reversed from those in Europe, North American, and much of Asia, so if you're looking for good beach weather, make sure to travel some time from September to May - that is, spring to autumn. The Sydney shoreline encompasses … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Attractions

by Dave · 1 Comment

If you rent a car or moped on Paros you can easily discover attractions on your own. Many small quaint towns are located in the center of the island and on the southeast side. Several beaches are best accessed by a moped because of their rugged and more remote locations. Looking for some time to relax, see Parikia, other small towns on the island while also visiting some beaches? I would highly recommend at least 5 days on Paros. Do not just come … [Read more...]

Mt. Shasta, CA – Mt Shasta City

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Mt. Shasta City is everything one looks for in a base-of-a-mountain town; it is small, charming and a meeting place for those attracted to this great mountain. It is a collection of those who come to the base of the mountain seeking spiritual guidance, those who come to marvel at its beauty, those who come to try to reach its lofty summit, those passing through on the 5, those who live and work here and those who just want to connect with nature. … [Read more...]

Manzanillo, Mexico – Beaches

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Playa San Pedrito is the closest beach to the central part of the city. It is about 1km from the zocalo. However, it is not the cleanest beach due to its proximity to the port. Playa Las Brisas is slightly further from the city; it is used by guests at several resorts but is also open to the general public. Playa Azul is a long beach that curves around the Bahia de Manzanillo Bay. Our favorite beaches in the region are on the … [Read more...]

Manzanillo, Mexico – Cuyutlan & Paraiso

by Dave · 4 Comments

Cuyutlan & Paraiso are located 30 miles southeast of Manzanillo. Not built up, a number of smaller fishing villages are located in the region along with several fine seafood restaurants. I like this area compared to the city of Manzanillo because this is rural Mexico and is well-removed from the beaten path of many tourists. It is a popular spot for vacationing Mexican families, many of whom are from Guadalajara. Cuyutlan like several of the … [Read more...]

Santa Barbara, CA – Beaches

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Santa Barbara and surrounding vicinity features a diverse set of beaches ranging from the state park beaches north of town, to the wide flat sand beaches in the vicinity of lower State Street. Beach side bars and restaurants can be found - and are part of the enjoyment of visiting some of the area beaches. State Park beaches charge an entry/parking fee - a receipt is given to you with a piece of tape that you tape to your windshield. Once you … [Read more...]
