Route 66 was the first highway of its kind and since then has been hugely popular for people to tour parts of America. Touring Route 66 is great ways to visit 8 of America’s states starting in Chicago and finishing in Santa Monica in California just make sure you apply for your ESTA USA visa, have a plan of action and bring plenty of supplies. The Ease of Acquiring an ESTA Visa with Estas.net

January 7, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

I am on the road usually 5-6 months a year; my travel schedule has been this way for a number of years. As a result I meet people from around the world - some of which are interested in visiting or moving to the United States. I've had friends apply for traditional visas in the past - it can be a stressful process. One of my friends had to apply several times before he acquired the coveted tourist visa. We had been planning a climbing trip in … [Read more...]

Broken Bridge, Dandong China – September 2015

September 1, 2015 by DaveLeave a Comment

The iron "Broken Bridge" was built over the Yalu River in 1911 by the Japanese. It was the first iron bridge over this river - later it was partially destroyed by USA military forces during the Korean War in 1950. The Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge sits right next to the "broken bridge" and is the only bridge in Dandong to connect both countries and is in fact one of the few ways in and out of North Korea. A Beijing Pyongyang passenger train uses … [Read more...]

Ever Considered Sailing in the BVI?

August 11, 2015 by Dave BeanLeave a Comment

What is a holiday of a lifetime? We have all heard this claim at one time or another... but in our neck of the woods we hear it all the time. Things like "best ever...", "can't wait to do it again...", "at last we found paradise..." are just a few of the comments that have become synonymous with a sailing vacation in the British Virgin Islands. Surprisingly... many people don't know that such vacations are possible and many that are aware that … [Read more...]

Bahrain, A Diversity of Experiences on a Tiny Island

January 3, 2015 by Dave3 Comments

Today I headed out to explore the island with my driver Babu. Babu, like many expats who have come to Bahrain is from India - and came here to take part in the construction boom a number of years ago. He worked his way to supervisor - the boom ended and now works with the hotel I am staying at to drive people around the island. He asked me how difficult it was to get a visa to the USA. I had to tell him for a single man like himself, it could be … [Read more...]

Arriving in Almaty, Kazakhstan

November 18, 2014 by Dave9 Comments

I left Chopan Alta, Kyrgyzstan at 8am this morning and arrived in Almaty, Kazakhstan at nearly 6pm. If there wasn't a mountain range between these two points, a line of site drive would probably be a few hours at most - but the route around these mountains through the main border crossing is much longer. Kazakhstan recently opened the border as visa free for citizens of the USA as well as select other countries on a trial basis and supposedly … [Read more...]

Oh the “Yurt Mice”, Fermented Horse Milk, Travelers in Kyrgyzstan and Visa Woes

October 25, 2014 by Dave2 Comments

It was brought to my attention that our latest yurt was infested with little mice running around the edges. I dutifully assumed the role of "mice whisperer" and tried to encourage them to leave our habitation. However this was to no avail, as these pesky little furry critters kept up their scuffling about all night. My spot in the yurt this evening was next to a 2 liter plastic soda bottle filled to the brim with some sort of berry jam that was … [Read more...]

Leif Harum – Author, Backpacker & World Traveler

May 13, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

I was originally attracted to Leif's website, Runaway Guide several years ago because of his unique adventures and the perspective he has gained from his travels on the cheap since the age of 16 - when he ran away from home. He has become an expert in extreme budget travel acquiring the skills and knowledge to survive on the road while spending as little money as possible. Oh and he makes cool in the moment, on the road travel videos to! Q. … [Read more...]
