A Tour of Lahemaa National Park with Tallinn Traveller

November 1, 2014 by Dave3 Comments

The tour operator, Tallinn Traveler was founded in 2008 by initially offering short day walks around old town Tallinn. They have since expanded and offer a variety of day trips outside of Tallinn and now employ approximately 30 guides. All tours are offered in English. This particular tour was worth every Euro. Led by young, interesting and often humorous guides, this National Park tour touches on a variety of attractions within a 200km … [Read more...]

Visit Palau – September 2014

September 1, 2014 by Dave2 Comments

Palau is truly the remote destination for nature lovers and outdoor and marine enthusiasts. It is not an easy destination to reach from Europe or the states. Non stop flights connect in Japan or Guam - this is part of Micronesia - about 800 km as the crow fly's from Manilla, Philippines. This island nation has not yet been overly developed with strip malls, high rise condo's, fast food restaurants that plague many island nations. This is uniquely … [Read more...]

Five Selfish Reasons to Add Volunteering to your Travels

June 29, 2014 by Two Bein' Chili4 Comments

Machete Man

Let’s face it; volunteering our time and effort to a worthy cause is a nice, feel-good thing to do.  For many of us, however, the idea of doing work when we could otherwise be relaxing on a beach or exploring the jungle just sounds … crazy.  We’re traveling to enjoy life, not to waste our precious time milking cows or digging ditches.  Well, I’d like to help you see the light: not only can volunteering let you to contribute directly to a cause … [Read more...]

Through Death and Sky

“Welcome to Fiji”, announced the captain of the Atlantic Pacific, Boeing 747-400. It had been a 10 hour and 45 minute flight from Los Angeles to Nadi, the third largest municipality on the Viti Levu Isle. Fiji was the first stop of a Cultural-Volunteer Expedition Lead by Carpe Diem followed by, New Zealand, and Australia. Our purpose was to live, learn, and aid, to fully acclimate ourselves in the spirit of Fiji. As the team left the plane, we … [Read more...]

One of the Keys to Happiness is a Bad Memory.

March 28, 2014 by Sarah Fazendin2 Comments

For the past decade, I’ve had this recurring nightmare. It involves concrete apartment structures hundreds and hundreds of stories tall and one city block wide. I’m usually stuck on one of the top floors, which are so high in the sky that small communities complete with little stores and schools have been established up there. Rickety walkways strung from windows connect the buildings so the tenants don’t have to make the journey down and back … [Read more...]

Bluffworks New Generation of Pants

January 30, 2014 by Dave13 Comments

Bluffworks founder Stefan Loble recently reached out to me indicating he had released the next generation of the Bluffworks pants. Leaving soon after the pants arrived on an International trip lasting several months - involving a number of climatic zones and rigors of both adventure travel and urban travel - this time on the road served as the perfect testing ground for these new pants. New improvements include: - newly-designed slash … [Read more...]

Where to Sleep Tonight – Trinidad

December 26, 2013 by Dave5 Comments

After sleeping in the car the past few nights - I was ready for a change. Night one I hid the car behind a large pile of dirt next to a small road in the middle of the rainforest. Night two, a frightful sleep was interrupted by dark shadows at my driver side window by two guys carrying scary looking weapons. Apparently my choice for my spot of rest was too close to a military base. They were nice and motioned me to move on. Night three I didn't … [Read more...]

A Weekend in Niagara

Horseshoe falls

A weekend in Niagara was a great way to wrap up the summer.  Bright lights, attractions abound, shows, casinos and the beautiful landscape of parks and the world famous Niagara Falls made it feel like an amusement park for adults and children alike, or like Canada's Las Vegas. A trip to Niagara affords an endless supply of things to do and see, from the thundering Niagara Falls where you can Journey Behind the Falls and ride the Maid of the … [Read more...]

Looking for a Vacation Destination? Consider Venezuela

October 12, 2013 by Joanne RuddellLeave a Comment

When I tell people that Venezuela is one of the most breathtaking vacation destinations in the world, my words are often met with glares of disbelief. Venezuela? That's Hugo Chavez territory! Well technically, Chavez is no longer alive, but the stigma remains. Awhile back, I was reading an article about the state of tourism in Venezuela. The piece indicated that while tourism is improving in this great South American nation, it's still … [Read more...]
