Foodie Field Trip: Los Alamos

April 6, 2011 by Rachel DuchakLeave a Comment

For our first field trip, we headed to Los Alamos, about an hour south of San Luis Obispo and an hour north of Santa Barbara. Rolling the dice for a sunny weekend with dry pavement after a solid week of gray rain, we scored with great weather on Sunday and a pleasant loop road ride through the hills east of town along Cat, Foxen, and Alisos Canyons. But before the sunshine, the rain had a few more things to say. Gloomy Saturdays are made for … [Read more...]

March 23, 2011 by Dave3 Comments

After running into Scott Lewis a few days ago, the owner of V Wine Cellars in Yountville (where we have tasted with a number of producers over the years), we were reminded of a special event coming up on May 7th. This, only the third annual "Sense Yountville" has already become the appellation's premiere wine & food event. Thirty wineries are represented offering their pre-release wines and large format bottles, and culinary pairings are … [Read more...]

Dinner & Dancing: Brazil

March 10, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

This is a guest post from Rachel who runs Central Coast Foodie in San Luis Obispo, California USA. In regards to her mention of Capirinhas - we've been making those this week and using Germana, a traditional Brazilian Cachaca. Perhaps this is too strong a Cachaca, it certainly doesn't taste like the awesome ones I had down in Sao Paulo - if anyone has other recommendations let us know? This drink sure requires a lot of sugar! *** Happy Mardi … [Read more...]

Enjoying the Cuisine

February 18, 2011 by Dave2 Comments

Mosaic restaurant is the "signature" restaurant at Zitahli resort. Each day we pop in for lunch and every lunch we order a Brazilian Capirinha. I fell in love with this drink after visiting Brazil in 09' and purposely seek it out when there is a bar at hand. Needless to say, seafood is a big part of the menu and its not often you can catch your own fish, fresh from the ocean the day before and have a fancy restaurant prepare it as your lunch. we … [Read more...]

Winter to Summer overnight

February 9, 2011 by Dave2 Comments

The winter we had has quickly become summer; its become bloody hot - tonight were hunched over hot coals cooking "moo grad tot" (translated to pork and a pan) in this heat coupled with drinking red wine from Bordeax and- the boiling point is quickly reached. Its still 32 C past 9pm and supposed to be warming up more in the next few days. While quietly working in the hammock under the house with my seemingly inexhaustible supply of Spy Wine … [Read more...]
