In 2018, a group of young Thai football players and their coach found themselves stranded in the flooded Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand. The rescue mission that involved countless divers, military personnel and volunteers from many countries took over 2 weeks to safely pull every one of them out of the cave. The incident once sent a shock wave reverberating around the world. A year later, this nail-biting rescue event was made into a … [Read more...]

The Utopia in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean – Interview with Shirley Squibb, Deputy Head of the Tourism Department of Tristan da Cunha

September 3, 2021 by Teh Chin LiangLeave a Comment

Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing Shirley Squibb to get an insider's glimpse of life in Tristan da Cunha, a South Atlantic Ocean island that is completely isolated from the outside world. Surrounded by rough seas and untouched wilderness, coupled with unpredictable weather conditions, Tristan was founded by a Portuguese admiral named Admiral Tristao da Cunha in 1506.  Edinburgh of the Seven Seas is the main village in Tristan where all … [Read more...]

Meet the Brummy who turned his love for his hometown into a walking tour – Rob Ankcorn, the co-founder of Real Birmingham Free Walking Tour

August 16, 2021 by Teh Chin LiangLeave a Comment

It was a grey chilly Saturday morning in February 2016. Most people would have been sleeping in or still tucked under a warm blanket with a hot chocolate by their side. Rob and Ruby, on the other hand, woke up earlier than usual and made their way to the main square in Birmingham. They had a mission that brought a surge of adrenaline rush in them. While waiting nervously for the crowd to congregate, bystanders were curious what they were up … [Read more...]

See, Shop, Eat in Los Angeles – Insider’s Guide by Daniel Will Harris

July 27, 2021 by Teh Chin LiangLeave a Comment

When most people think of LA, the very first thing that comes into mind is Hollywood and celebrities. That is a stereotypical way to sum up LA because Hollywood is actually a very small part of a larger whole. As an actor, Daniel Will Harris has been in many movie studios. If you are visiting from out of state or abroad, Daniel recommends Warner Brothers Studio Tour.  Unlike Universal, which is literally a theme park with very loud buses that … [Read more...]

When it Comes to Writing, All you Need is Nothing: Just Write it, then Write the Next Thing! Go Inside the Mind of the Talented Daniel Will Harris

July 13, 2021 by Teh Chin Liang2 Comments

It was a spring Sunday morning in 2010, a white Mazda MX-5 convertible pulled up to a curb outside my hostel in North Beach, San Francisco. On the driver's seat was Daniel Will Harris. Daniel is an actor, author, creative writer and a writing coach. I was young and free-spirited. I had my heart set on meeting all the wonderful people in the world. Riding shotgun with a Hollywood actor and having him as my tour guide had flattered me beyond words. … [Read more...]

Living in the Archipelago That Whale Sharks Call Home – Interview with Founder of the Mafia Island Tourism Association, Peter Byrne

June 1, 2021 by Teh Chin Liang2 Comments

Out in the middle of the Indian ocean, the water is shimmering in deep emerald green. A traditional dhow rocks gently against the lapping ripples. Next to the boat, a group of divers are flipping their fins in excitement and snorkeling alongside with a whale shark, the biggest fish in the ocean and a species now classified as endangered. This is not a typical scene on any tropical island. This experience – and all its other attractions in one … [Read more...]

Visit Cyprus – The Deputy Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus

May 5, 2021 by Teh Chin LiangLeave a Comment

Q1. What are the challenges of promoting tourism in a small island that is politically divided in two parts? The Republic of Cyprus was invaded in 1974 by Turkey who then created an illegal pseudo-state in its occupied part that is not internationally recognized. The Republic of Cyprus promotes tourism in the area it currently controls, by making sure services provided by the industry are up to the standards set by laws, by cooperating with … [Read more...]

A Little Cabin in the Arctic Wilderness: The Journey of a Girl in Pursuit of Happiness in the Northernmost Permanent Settlement on the Planet

February 1, 2021 by Teh Chin Liang2 Comments

October has always been one of Cecilia's favorite months. The sky over Longyearbyen, Norway (78.2232° N, 15.6267° E) is painted in incredible shades of blue. Wisps of thick clouds roll over the awe-inspiring mountains, putting a mysterious veil over the peaks. Her mood is immediately elevated to a new height in this picture-perfect weather. It is the last month of the year she gets to soak up the sun before the two-and-a-half-month polar night … [Read more...]
