Letting it all out at Inle Lake, Myanmar

January 1, 2021 by Dave2 Comments

Stumbling into an outdoor night market after strolling through the dimly lit streets of Nyaungshe we spotted a number of food vendors. One caught our eye – vividly so with the disco ball throwing orbs of bright light in all directions and the nearly blown out speaker playing everything from American folk songs to Myanmar pop songs. Oh and the smells coming from the BBQ including a number of intestinal products, locally caught fish and a variety of veggies.

Spotting spy wine coolers in their tiny fridge – we clinked glasses with our friend Bohemian Vagabond – who was also starting out her evening in light fashion, with a Myanmar beer.

After satiating our appetites including plenty of delicious BBQ okra we sauntered across the open market to another attractive spot – Peter’s Bar – one who visits this bar will soon feel like they have known Peter their entire life. Indeed, it is like Peter is everywhere – his likeness stares out at patrons from a number of banners, logos on the glasses and Peter himself is a constant presence here.

Draining mojito after mojito we soon found ourselves in a hyper state of happiness – the memory becomes dim at this point but I have some videos and drunken tweets to friends to prove this night really happened including running across a parking lot half clothed screaming obscenities and chasing Peter while he was riding a motor scooter and then using unauthorized bathroom spots multiple times.

After a few Myanmar hand rolled cigars slipped into our lips from ‘new’ friends we made selfies with Peter making sure plenty of smoke from our cigars was blowing towards the camera.

Apparently we got lost at some point, running through darkened streets trying to find Peter and more food. But after that the memory starts playing tricks on me and I’m not sure how the rest of the evening actually ended other then I am alive to write this.

Chin – those memories are a long ways from Mexico where I am now parked for as much of the winter as possible:)
