Houttuyn Wellness River Resort – January 2020

The Houttuyn Wellness River Resort is a slice of serenity hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Paramaribo, the capital city of Suriname. Located only about a 30 minute drive from the city (or about an hour from Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport), the resort is built on the green riverbanks of the Suriname River.

Opened in 2016 as the first wellness hotel and villa resort in the entire country. While there are a number of cozy accommodation options, one does not need to stay here to enjoy the amenities. Offers a small massage center as well as a Jacuzzi, fitness center, a special pool for wellness package guests and several saunas. Wellness package options include hot stone massage, a scrub & relax package and a full body massage. Set packages also include meals. The massage rooms are tiny but comfortable – let the talented masseuse put you to sleep!

A restaurant serves both indoor and outdoors – offering up a tasty mix of select local dishes as well as international cuisine. Fine ice cream is also served – including two of our favorites, mocha and rum raisin.

A larger pool is arguably the centerpiece of the property – with views overlooking the Suriname River. With a bar in the center and poolside service during the daytime, one can order a variety of drinks and food options from both the bar and the restaurant.

One comes here to unwind – leaving the stresses of work from where ever you came from. Quiet and peaceful – one arrives to escape today’s driven lifestyle of constant movement. This is a wellness resort, not an activity based resort. Based on personal experience, one will leave here rejuvenated and refreshed.

Dutch and English spoken by the staff. For more information, visit: www.houttuyn.com and their facebook page here – www.facebook.com/houttuyn

Interesting place. Would be a nice spot to visit in Paramaribo.

Blessing – yes, both this country and this resort are well off the main tourists beaten path!
