Ubud, Indonesia – March 2010

Ubud Indonesia Bali is a wonderful affordable arts driven town on Bali Island, Indonesia, well inland from the tourist crazy beach areas of Kuta and Legion. It takes about an hour and 20 minutes from Kuta Beach to Ubud. A plethora of home stays and guesthouses abound providing affordable accommodation. There are also some very nice intimate Balinese resorts for higher end lodging. A stay here is generally relaxed and not for the night club seeking tourist I (although there are several night clubs).

Many restaurants are available serving both Indonesian and western food and in general (outside of the real touristy type restaurants), the food is excellent. Ubud is known for its arts community and cultural heritage. As a result temples often have events at night including Balinese dancing. Ubud is a small community and you can walk between most locations within the town limits. Balinese masks, kites, woodwork, stonework, paintings and handicrafts are easily available. Motorbike and or tour companies are also well accessible. There are many attractions within a days drive of Ubud, including scenic lakes, volcanoes, beaches, jungle terrain, agricultural farms, terraced rice fields showing beautiful shades of green, waterfalls, scenic temples and much more.
