Visit Antarctica – September 2016

Antarctica is a unique experience. Natives have never called this continent home and the land is not owned by any one country. A visit here can be life changing; the experiences are truly unique and so is the visually stunning scenery. Very few people live here year round – they are in some of the bases operated by various countries around the continent.

One tour operator, Oceanwide Expeditions offers several trips a year to Antarctica. Their trips are memorable not only because of what you are seeing, but also the on shore activities they offer (numerous cruises do not offer the amount of on shore activities that they do).

Highlights of Antarctica include a plethora of wildlife – you may be standing on a small island surrounded by jousting fur seals, or in the middle of a penguin colony high up on the slopes, or watch Humpback whales ‘itching’ themselves against the hull of the ship, or you might find yourself hanging from a rope on the side of a glacier cliff.

There are certainly some impressive mountains in select mountain ranges worldwide – but there are few as unique and as impressive as these – they often tower prominently into the sky, rising directly from the shoreline.

Beautiful (but remote) part of the world. The penguins are looking so cute 🙂

Yes, the penguins (among many other things) were highlights of this trip 🙂
