A Family Friendly Day in Tijuana

October 29, 2015 by Penny Williams1 Comment

Do you know the zonkey? Along the Avenida Revolucion (the most famous street in Tijuana) you are likely to find the Zonkey.  Some attached to carts, some on a corner with their owner next to a feed box of hay.  All offer a variety of sombreros to wear and one of the best photo opportunities in Tijuana. and are there.  A Zonkey is a donkey that has been painted with stripes and looks more like a zebra. The donkey painting started many years … [Read more...]

Music, Music Every Where and a Sip of Tennessee Moonshine to Drink

October 23, 2015 by Rachel Duchak1 Comment

Curtis Byrge Americana

“Hippie” Jack Stoddart handed around a Mason jar of chilled moonshine as music filled the air. We were close to the main stage under the big tent during the second day of the September 2015 Jammin' at Hippie Jack's Americana Roots Music, Camping & Arts Festival in Overton County, Tennessee, the home of Americana Music: so delicious. This funky, progressive, and educational gathering of Americana roots musicians and enthusiasts served … [Read more...]

Paradise Found: High Spirits and Good Eats in Montana

October 9, 2015 by Catherine Sweeney2 Comments

Service with a smile adds to the enjoyment of these delicious fresh tacos ("The Fin" between "The Birds") at Victory Taco

On the culinary trail from Bozeman to Missoula Sipping wine on a breezy summer day in a place called Paradise was a little slice of heaven, indeed. And it wasn't the only experience that had me in high spirits on a three-day road trip that began in Bozeman and took us northwest to Missoula. With the guidance of our local Montana companions, my husband and I sampled surprisingly innovative dishes, traditional Montana classics, fine wines, … [Read more...]

Walking from New Jersey to New York and Back

October 7, 2015 by Brian CicioniLeave a Comment

Over the past 2 years, I’ve walked over the BMW (Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg) bridges, which connect Brooklyn and Manhattan. This summer, I finally walked over the George Washington Bridge and highly recommend it to any urban explorer. As a car owner who lives in Pennsylvania, I drove as close as possible to the pedestrian entrance on the New Jersey side of the bridge. If you are a history buff (like myself), I recommend parking at Fort … [Read more...]

Cancun Sea Turtle Hatching and Release Experience

September 25, 2015 by Alexa Meisler5 Comments

The turtle egg-laying season is between May and September in the Mexican Caribbean resort town of Cancun. I was fortunate to visit with my son in August and experience turtle eggs hatching and the baby turtle's journey to the ocean. For most sea turtles, making their way onto the beach at night to lay eggs can be a risky situation. In Cancun, a few of the hotels located on the famed 'Hotel Zone' have created sea turtle protection and release … [Read more...]

Maritime Québec: A Feast for the Senses

September 23, 2015 by Catherine Sweeney8 Comments

Highlights of a three-day Québec road trip For three days this summer, it was a delight to be on the road in parts of Québec that I'd never visited: Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie, two of the province's maritime regions on the St. Lawrence River. Driving north from our starting point in Québec City to our first destination about 100 miles north, the village of Kamoraska, my travel companions and I were soon passing through rural areas with … [Read more...]

What is The Weather Like in Hawaii?

September 19, 2015 by Jamin Tom2 Comments

The climate in Hawaii is atypical based on it's particular tropical location. Because of the vastness of water surrounding the archipelago, which is the furthest such island collection from any continent landmass in the world - the climate is rather subtropical. Hawaii experiences two seasons whose extremes are tempered by the presence of the ocean. In summer, from May to September, the temperature rarely reaches 27 degrees Celsius; the record is … [Read more...]

The Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival has quickly become one of the city's most prominent food and wine events; it is a big deal - you probably saw the billboards scattered around town leading up to the festival. This event recently celebrated it's 5th year in a row with three nights of culinary excellence combined with world class wine. Each day features a number of events including cooking demonstrations by celebrated chefs (this year a … [Read more...]

Baja California’s Hidden Gem: Loreto

August 27, 2015 by Jacki UengLeave a Comment

Loreto, located on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico's Baja California, was one of famous oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau's favorite places in the world. He first visited Loreto in 1980 and appropriately called it "The Aquarium of the World". Yet, it remains a hidden gem to many people even to their 'next door neighbors' in the United States. Loreto is merely a 2.5-hour flight from Los Angeles. Alaska airlines offers nonstop service from LAX, … [Read more...]

From the Traditional Farming to Luxurious Spas – Touring the Mennonite Region of Southern Ontario

August 24, 2015 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

The Mennonite region in southern Ontario around the Village of St. Jacob’s is a captivating traditional, rustic area yet with the amenities of the modern age. For those who enjoy history and the traditional pre-modern way of life, St. Jacob’s is the place to visit. The Village, a 1 1/2 hours drive from Toronto, represents the living remnants of a European Christian sect that was persecuted in Europe then found a home in Canada with the freedom … [Read more...]
