Im a twenty-something, rather short British girl who constantly has itchy feet. I took four years out on a gap year before heading back to university to study Primary Teaching. Im a serial gap year taker after turning down my place at university in 2010, I have either been working my butt off or travelling around with my backpack and the boyfriend.

This is my personal blog where I collect my thoughts and experiences as I work my way around the globe.

Nowadays I spend most of my time travelling and working on this website, though I do still contribute to a number of different outlets on a freelance basis, covering topics such as news, features, and, of course, travel.

Im Vicky, and I got the taste for adventure on expedition in Belize. Trekking in the jungle, sleeping in a hammock, scuba diving on the barrier reef, and working with archaeologists on Mayan temples skewed my idea of what real life should be. Ive hiked, biked, camped, kayaked, and sailed through some 30-something countries, and the list of places I want to visit just keeps growing .

The Gypsy Nomads is setup for long term travellers, expats and wanderers – to feel at home.

This is a site dedicated to both long and short form travel writing. Its mission is to report on things beautiful and interesting, dangerous and rare. It is dedicated to the sound of grilling meat after a Thai midnight, the call to adventure hiding in a Netflix queue and the hopes of a marginalized community on the slopes of Lima. This site is about the world we live in and the people we share it with, and is one where lighthearted and fun travel pieces can run next to serious reporting.

Together, we have travelled the Southern States by Greyhound, explored Japan and Korea, hiked through Britain from the very south to the very north, took the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Beijing, and roamed the Mongolian Steppes on horseback.

There are two objectives to Thinking Nomads: firstly to share, inspire and advise anyone who is interested in independent travel everything from how, what and where. We have picked up bit of travel wisdom along the way and want to share it with anyone that is interested. In our eyes traveling is a form of education that opens the mind to new cultures and teaches valuable life skills.
