There are two objectives to Thinking Nomads: firstly to share, inspire and advise anyone who is interested in independent travel everything from how, what and where. We have picked up bit of travel wisdom along the way and want to share it with anyone that is interested. In our eyes traveling is a form of education that opens the mind to new cultures and teaches valuable life skills.

I guess the urge to travel and the fascination for airplanes was inherited because both my parents spent parts of their working life in the travel industry. I do remember my first flight and that also made me interested in airplanes. I am not a full fledged geek but follow the development and the industry.

I’m Sophie Pearce and two years ago I decided to ditch my desk and the thought of ‘settling down’ to backpack around South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand for 6 months. When I got back, I didn’t want the journey to end and so I decided to tick off a few more countries but this time by myself. Travelling solo wasn’t easy at first, in fact it was terrifying, but I fell head over heels in love with it!

I am a writer, blogger, and social good advocate living in Minneapolis, Minnesota with my husband and two children. A world wanderer at heart, I have been fortunate to have visited over 30 countries by either traveling, working, studying or volunteering.

After living in Manchester, England for my whole life I thought it was about time to see a little more of the world so I created this blog to record my travels.

In February 2012 I sold all of my belongings and took a one way flight to Costa Rica. I havent stopped traveling since. Join me, Camille Willemain, in my adventures discovering peace, balance, and bliss across the world.

Sometimes people ask me when I fell in love with traveling and I find that really hard to answer. It’s like I was just born with the desire to wander to faraway places. My first big travel experience was to my hometown’s Sister City in Japan when I was just nine years old.
