Best Things to do Whilst Travelling

February 23, 2023 by Sarah WilliamsonLeave a Comment

Paradoxically, the pleasure of travel is in arriving. Nobody goes travelling because they love the idea of sitting in stations and airports or on trains and planes for hours at a stretch.

Those parts of a trip are just the price to be paid for all of the wonders you will enjoy when you reach your next destination. Thankfully journey times are often shorter now and there are things that you can do to brighten them up.

Read on to learn more.

Online Bingo
This should be a go-to activity for travellers needing to liven up the odd dull spot. There are top bingo games available to you at the touch of your mobile or laptop.

Bingo is one of the most popular online games, particularly within the UK. Brits love it because it is an easy game to get the hang of – much simpler than online poker or blackjack – so those who are new to it can join in the fun more or less immediately.

Bingo games are also quite quick-fire and short, which makes them perfect for travelling. The dull spots during travel are usually fairly brief, so you do not want to get tied up in a game that could last for hours at a stretch.

On the other hand, if you are facing a lengthy journey or waiting time, it just means you can fit in more bingo games and then still have time left for other activities.

Exercise
One of the most common events to occur when travelling that can leave you needing something to pass the time is delays at the airport or railway. Sitting around waiting can cause your body to cramp and your brain to go crazy with the tedium.

A good way to stay healthy and happy if it happens to you is to get some exercise. Take a walk between the terminals to avoid leg cramps or get a mat out of your bag and do yoga.

There is no need to be worried about the others who are waiting: they will be far more bothered about themselves than anything you are doing. It will also help keep you feeling vital for when you get to where you are going.

Reading
It is not just travel waiting times that leave people needing activities to fill the time. Bad weather during your trip can sometimes keep you confined to a hotel or guest house for a few hours.

That is why bringing a good book with you is an absolute must when travelling. Some people take a novel that they can lose themselves in while others prefer the sort of book that you can dip in and out of as you choose.

The good thing about reading as a way of alleviating boring periods when travelling is that it will fully absorb your mind. This means that even quite long spells of poor weather or journeys will seem to pass by very quickly.

Coffee and Books

Taking Photographs
This will be ideal for people who are travelling using their own car, because that will allow them to stop periodically and take some photographs of scenic and/or interesting things along the way. If you take the pictures on a mobile phone you can add another layer of fun to photography as a travel pastime by logging into Instagram or another social media site to share your shots.

That way you can see all the replies from jealous people who are stuck in the office while you are away on your trip. Suddenly, your dull car journey will seem a lot less so!

Learning Some Language Phrases
Some of the other activities featured here are suitable for particular situations – being trapped in your hotel by bad weather, delayed or dull journeys – but this one will work for any of these. Learning some of the words and phrases that you are most likely to need when you get to your destination will fill such moments in a productive way.

You will benefit from doing so, because it will make finding the things you want when you arrive a lot easier and quicker. It will also help you to make a positive impression on the local people.

Doing some trip planning
Being stuck in an airport waiting for your plane or on a long journey is a very good time to research the place you are travelling to. You can help yourself get through this downtime by looking up your destination on the internet and planning what you will see and do when you get there.
That will turn a dull patch of the trip into a period of excitement and anticipation.

Every travel experience has its occasional lulls, but any of these activities will help them pass more pleasantly.
