Club Med Villages at a Glance, Guest Post

September 1, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

No two destinations are exactly the same, so it's no surprise that Club Med villages have stayed away from a "cookie cutter" model. There are a few items you'll find at every village and many different types of villages to choose from. What You'll Find at Every Village CM has been around since the 1950s, and in that time have established a more-than-just-popular resort routine. Here are some elements you'll find in every village. GOs: The … [Read more...]

Pele’s Castle and the Dracula Castle

August 31, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

Today I toured the mountainous countryside about 2-3 hours outside of Bucharest. Two highlights of the day: Pele's castle is one of the most amazing castles in the country. It is the former home of the Romanian Royal Family (all originally from Germany). The small town of Bran is the home of the "Dracula's Castle" the castle that played a role in the inspiration for Bram Stoker's book Dracula. "Dracula" has very little to do with Romanian … [Read more...]

Exploring Bucharest

August 26, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

After a quick glimpse and walk around old town at 7am in the morning - this part of Bucharest seems to be old world meets construction zone. Apparently this part of Bucharest is seeing a revitalization of sorts - not sure where the money is coming from for this but there are a number of major projects in this part of town including businesses remodeling their own buildings in the middle of the old city. As someone I met last night mentioned, … [Read more...]

August 23, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Children at the Community School for Creative Education in Oakland saw their ideal play space designs become reality on Saturday, August 18. Teams of volunteers assembled a steel and plastic playground structure with a twisted slide, monkey bars and lots of components for climbing and exploring. Some built a … [Read more...]

Picnicking in Istanbul

August 22, 2012 by Hans BeltranLeave a Comment

Picnicking in Istanbul. As the city heats up during the summer months, folks in Istanbul like going to green spaces for picnicking with family and friends. Turks, in fact, are quite the experts when it comes to laying out a really good picnic spread. It's something of a national obsession, and you'll find thousands of piknik yeri, or picnic grounds scattered across the country. Public spaces tend to cater to picnickers, with some riverside spots … [Read more...]

No Rest & Relaxation on these travels!

August 21, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

The screaming followed me across the pond and then did not let up as I hopped across the old world from the United Kingdom to Romania. The first screamer shed no tears for the 10 hour flight - rather he hit every note in the key of F sharp and was a persistent little bugger. Lesser children would have killed it a few hours into the flight. After 10 hours this young chap was going strong wailing like a banshee. Unfortunately he was seated right … [Read more...]
