(January 17, 2013) --- Considered by industry experts and scuba diving enthusiasts as “the best of the best,” Scuba Diving Magazine’s Top 100 Gold List is a “popularity contest” where rankings are based on a total number of responses from global readers and divers. The Top 100 Gold List features operators, resorts, live-aboards, underwater experiences (i.e., best wall, shore and wreck sites), dive bars and more. Here are some of the highlights … [Read more...]
Coogee Beach & 2013 Sydney Fireworks
We are still trying to catch up on blog posts as its been a hectic past couple of weeks! Trying to avoid Bondi like the plague on the last day of 2012 we headed straight for Coogee. So did many others - there were more views of people than sand. Walking up the coastal walk I stumbled upon Wylies, boasting public swimming baths perched on the edge of the cliffs with its own sea pool built into the existing sandstone rock next to the crashing … [Read more...]
A Monumental Capital – USA
A Monumental Capital- USA - Let your eyes wander round an array of books atop books aligning to the top of the highest domed ceiling in the Library of Congress. This monumental library is located in the United States capital. To see more sights of rich heritage, visit the city of Washington, D.C. Before you ever leave the house, I recommend planning a solid trip in advance with airport parking. To avoid all that hassle on the big travel … [Read more...]
Traveling in the North Country Fair… Part 1 Adirondacks & Catskills
Part 1 Even though few therapists would agree, sometimes neglect paths to the best possible outcome. Such is the case with the Adirondacks, whose fierce geography, unproductive soil, and hard weather diverted early American settlers to more benign plots. As a result, a state of raw wilderness maintained into the 19th century. Some credit the turning point to William H. H. Murray’s book, Adventures in the Wilderness, extolling the freshness … [Read more...]
Traveling in the North Country Fair… Part 2 The Spirit of the Catskills
Before arriving at a new place we all carry the luggage of pre-conceptions. There are usually holes in this kit; we’re almost always wrong, at least to some extent, about our notions. My idea of the Catskills came from two very different periods, the live television run of the 1950s; and the Summer of Love in 1969, the year of Woodstock. As a young boy I would run home from school every day to turn on the TV and drink in whatever show or … [Read more...]
Sprout Eco Friendly Watch
Sprout Watch (Reviewed January 2013) Affordable and Eco-friendly do not always match up in the same sentence - but they do when referring to Sprout watches. Sprout brings watchmaking into the current century for the environmentally conscious generation - their watches are biodegradable. The adventure watch we tested is contained in a case made of corn resin, the material behind the dial is natural bamboo, the strap is organic cotton and the … [Read more...]
Roseate House, London
One of the most enjoyable stays I have experienced in London was at the Roseate House situate at 3 - 5 Westbourne Terrace. Many years past I had owned a mews flat on the Terrace and was excited to return to this area that has so much historical relevance at least for me. Centrally located it is just a 5 minute walk to Paddington Station. The hotel combines three absolutely marvelous Regency townhouses of grey stone that trot merrily side by … [Read more...]
Old Florida charm in Panama City Beach
Panama City Beach in the Florida panhandle is one of those places that remind you of a combination of other places, a blend of kitschy charm found in Myrtle Beach, Atlantic City and Key West. It’s a place unto its own, though, and one where you’ll soon find, by dialect and design, a place apart from what you might usually think of as the Sunshine State. South Florida, more a mindset than geographical location, is arguably from the middle of … [Read more...]

Jarvis Bay – Kangaroo Valley – Dolphin Cruise
Today we drove out to Jarvis Bay - about 190 clicks south of Sydney. We were expecting summer time temperatures and clear skies but upon arrival were greeted with heavy fog showers, wind and unseasonably cold temperatures. Needless to say, this made for a miserable picnic lunch (from the awesome Husky Bakery & Cafe in Huskisson Beach) and even more miserable swimming for those brave enough souls in the water. We swam with dolphins in … [Read more...]
