October 1, 2004 by DaveLeave a Comment

This huge flea market was founded in 1960 and advertises over 8 miles of vendors. This market is located on Berryessa Road about 1.5 miles in from the 101 freeway in San Jose and is open Wednesday, Friday and the weekends. There are several huge parking lots all located approximately across from the actual flea market. If you visit on the weekends expect to walk 5-10 minutes to the main entrance due to the crowds. Be sure to visit their 1/4 … [Read more...]

Cuzco, Peru – Machu Picchu

by Dave · 11 Comments

Machu Picchu is visually one of the planet's most unique and inspirational sites. Combine its visual beauty with the intriguing story of a "lost city" high in the Andes being "discovered" centuries after it was abandoned has made this site obtain almost a mythical status. One can attempt to experience Machu Picchu through videos, photographs and glowing travel writing, but there is absolutely no substitute to visiting the site in person. … [Read more...]

Doris Duke Museum of Islamic Art – July 2004

July 1, 2004 by DaveLeave a Comment

The Doris Duke Museum of Islamic Art is one of the best western collections of Islamic art anywhere in the United States. This estate is 5 acres with stunning views and is located right at the edge of the ocean. Stand next to the pool and look out at the ocean - what an incredible spot! Doris Duke's home was built in the mid to late 1930's. There is absolutely no signage at the house or in the neighborhood as residents want to keep its location … [Read more...]

Las Vegas, NV – Casinos

by Dave · 1 Comment

There are so many casinos in Las Vegas; one could spend months just visiting, gambling and viewing all of their other attractions. Many of the Casinos, especially located along Las Vegas Boulevard (The Strip) are considered Super Casinos. There are only a few destinations on the planet where you will find a Super Casino - Las Vegas is one of these cities. A Super Casino is like an entire city contained within one giant mega entertainment … [Read more...]

Las Vegas, NV – Hoover Dam

by Dave · 1 Comment

Hoover Dam - is one of America's national treasures and is a must visit for anyone who is staying in the Las Vegas area. It is located about 35 minutes outside of Las Vegas off of US Highway 93 heading towards Phoenix, Arizona. There is a security checkpoint on the road several miles from the actual Dam itself. Random checks are conducted but chances are you will be waived through. Parking is in the recently constructed parking garage built … [Read more...]

Las Vegas, NV – Night Clubs

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Hakkasan is located in the middle of the MGM Grand, one of the largest casinos in the world. NOTE: Studio 54 has now closed, essentially replaced by this latest casino hotspot, Hakkasan (a more intriguing, sensual and mysterious sounding name then Studio 54 ever was). Hakkasan is close to the pinnacle of Vegas nightclubs and party spots in North America, if not the World. First of all, to enter Hakkasan you have to pass through the largest … [Read more...]

Modesto Fruit Stands

by Dave · 2 Comments

"Fruiting" in the summertime in the Modesto area is a favorite past-time of mine. This usually involves driving from fruit stand to fruit stand pricing and picking out favorite fruits. I only do this in the afternoon because part of the experience is fruiting in the hottest part of the day. Temperatures in the 100's are ideal for this activity. This section explains the different kinds of "fruiting", gives information for how to "fruit" and … [Read more...]

Vientiane, Laos – Activities & Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Dong Dok University is located several miles north of Vientiane and is a great place to meet Lao students. Often these students are interested in practicing foreign languages with tourists. Internet cafes are mentioned here because this USED to be an activity in and of itself! Back in the day, this city had the most internet cafe's of any city I had ever been to. These used to be predominantly located in the center of town and along Thanon Fa … [Read more...]

Vientiane, Laos – More Information

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The following are several things to be aware of when traveling in Vientiane and are listed in alphabetical order. Laos installed the first ATM in the country in Vientiane, and in the early 2000's still could not handle international transactions! Fortunately today, there are plenty of international ATM's scattered throughout town. There are at least 6 or 7 banks in Vientiane that can handle cash advances or change money. A good souvenir is a … [Read more...]
