Taking Advantage of Bright Sun in Belfast Before the Rain Sets In

September 21, 2015 by DaveLeave a Comment

Upon landing in Belfast, Northern Ireland (or as some might say, 'Nord Iron') I was pleasantly surprised to see some sun peeking through the clouds. Coming from bright sunny days in Spain this past week with warm temperatures I had braced myself for brisk cloudy days and bone chilling nights. I felt welcomed on the bus ride into town; a gentleman facing me in another seat kept smiling my way - talking to the lady he was with and nodding in my … [Read more...]

Experience Sunshine Coast my way

September 7, 2015 by Marie NievesLeave a Comment

When you are leading a stressful life as I was, you usually do not even realize it until it is too late. Only after some types of trauma people do start paying attention to the tempo of their lives and how much stress they truly feel. Also, living in modern cities additionally produces a great level of stress which does not occur in the county. Long commutes to/from work, long lines at supermarkets, traffic jams and too many people constantly … [Read more...]

Bali Sea Temples

September 1, 2015 by Nikki Near And Far1 Comment

Bali is home to thousands of Hindu temples, also known as Puras. I never got tired of the beauty of these holy places, whether it was a small temple on a family’s private compound, or a majestic temple towering on a mountain top. During my travels, I was able to visit two of the seven sea temples, Tanah Lot and Uluwatu Temple. Each of the temples is said to be (in theory) visible from the next, forming a chain around the island to honor the … [Read more...]

Baja California’s Hidden Gem: Loreto

August 27, 2015 by Jacki UengLeave a Comment

Loreto, located on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico's Baja California, was one of famous oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau's favorite places in the world. He first visited Loreto in 1980 and appropriately called it "The Aquarium of the World". Yet, it remains a hidden gem to many people even to their 'next door neighbors' in the United States. Loreto is merely a 2.5-hour flight from Los Angeles. Alaska airlines offers nonstop service from LAX, … [Read more...]

The Grandeur of Montserrat Spain

August 22, 2015 by Dave5 Comments

When I find a place such as Montserrat in Spain that combines an inspirational human element with certainly a natural one, I pause for reflection. I try to absorb as much of this beauty as I can through all my senses. When visiting places like this it helps to be alone (not always possible at places of such grandeur). But fortunately I arrived late in the day mid week and the buses and most of the tourists had already left. The drive on the … [Read more...]

A Dingle Story

August 18, 2015 by Cecile RiphagenLeave a Comment

Travel is about moments suspended in time. When travelling I try to consider a place my temporary home. Running around, visiting one sight after the other in order to tick off the list of sights you really have to see and cannot miss, blurs one’s mind into one undistinguished pile of memories of churches, castles, landscapes, cafés, restaurants and other things you have visited but actually can’t remember. You look back at all those pictures you … [Read more...]

Where Eagles Roam: Howe Sound, British Columbia

August 16, 2015 by Kevin Nelson6 Comments

Perched on a rock in the middle of Howe Sound, less than a half hour from downtown Vancouver, was one of nature’s grandest flying creatures: a bald eagle. Though we could not see the bird in its entirety, we could not miss its white head gazing down imperiously on a pod of harbor seals snoozing in the sun below. Our 30-foot-long rigid hull inflatable boat, powered by twin 225-horsepower Mercury Verrado engines, motored slowly by as the six of … [Read more...]

Pittsburgh: Land of Celebrities

August 14, 2015 by Marianne RuaneLeave a Comment

I am a self-acknowledged history nerd with a film degree. I had no idea that Pittsburgh had an abundance of sites covering my two big interests - colonial and current celebrities. Mostly I am interested in the places celebrities were - so that I can stand in, sit on, or touch the same spot. I imagine I am forging a connection that transcends space and time, that the celebrity's genius energy can infiltrate my own and affect it in a positive … [Read more...]

Collbató, Spain – a Town to Explore at your Own Pace

August 12, 2015 by Dave2 Comments

I find myself walking along the sun drenched walkways in the town of Collbató. A solitary horn echoes down the narrow alleyways. The pitch is not perfect and it is disjointed in sound. Perhaps it comes from a young student. Or maybe an older person wanting to explore a musical passion for the first time in their life. Irregardless of who is playing, I follow the sound and spend a few minutes listening under the second story window while … [Read more...]
