Touring and Exploring the Wonders of Chicago -Guest Post

December 14, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

Chicago is full of diversity, from the people that live there, to the people it attracts. There’s so much to see and do in the Windy City - famous architecture, historic landmarks, and of course, plenty of pizzerias to stuff your guts. Since Chicago attracts travelers with such varied agendas, of course many of the tours in Chicago are extremely different too. Tourists can choose to walk the city, hop on a bus or even eat their way through … [Read more...]

Travelling in Prague on a Budget

December 3, 2012 by Agness Walewinder2 Comments

Why go to Prague? The capital city of the Czech Republic is one of the most picturesque places in all of Europe – with its ancient history and diverse and mixed architectural styles. Prague is not only a sophisticated and calm city, but also extremely hospitable. Delicious Czech food, breathtaking historical monuments, old churches and galleries, traditional architecture – Prague has it all and the city cannot wait to share it with you. … [Read more...]

Philadelphia: the City of Ghostly Love

October 30, 2012 by Marianne RuaneLeave a Comment

I was on my way to Philadelphia's Triumph Brewing Company to meet with my boss, Joe Wojie of Grim Philly Twilight Tours, and Laurie Hull, a paranormal investigator from Tri County Paranormal. We were going to discuss and map out the route to our Halloween tour, a hands-on historical ghost hunt. I had been waiting at my South Philly bus stop for over 40 minutes, alone. An older man, tall and skeletal, inappropriately dressed for the sweltering … [Read more...]

How to Avoid the Pitfalls of Using a Taxi

by Dave · 13 Comments

Chances are if you have traveled to other countries you have at some point used taxis in your travels. In general, this article is about problematic taxi drivers. It is really hard to put a percentage on the "bad" taxi drivers I've used on trips around the world as each country is different and it is these "bad" drivers who really stand out in your mind. If I had to choose a number, I would say maybe 20-30 percent of the taxi drivers I've used … [Read more...]

Two of the most popular destinations in south-east Asia are Siem Reap and Bangkok. Siem Reap is the nearest city to Angkor Wat, the largest religious complex in the world, and Bangkok is famous for cheap flights, booze and finger-licking good food. Their geographical proximity make the route Bangkok - Siem Reap well-trodden by travellers from around the world on their way around SE Asia. Reflections of Ohrid – Macedonia

September 28, 2012 by Dave9 Comments

Let us set the scene for your visit - Lake Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of Macedonia's true natural gems. Here are the basics: the old town of Ohrid is the place to stay with its ancient architecture, site of Europe's first University, site of where the Cyrillic alphabet was invented, steep cobblestone streets, small cafes and bars that are only accessible by foot or by boat and rocky secluded beaches perched at the base of steep … [Read more...]

Visiting London for first timers with an eye on Scotland

September 25, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

This post is about London, one of the world's major International cities. With two major airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) and two smaller ones (Luton and Stansted), there is no shortage of flights to and from here from all over the globe. Once in the city, the famous red double decker buses will take you anywhere you need to go within the city limits - and some of these run all night. The also famous "tube" looks like a birds nest when you see it … [Read more...]

Staying in Struga, Macedonia

September 24, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

I'm now staying in Struga, a small town on the shores of beautiful Lake Ohrid in Southern Macedonia. I've rented the top loft in an apartment building only blocks from the shoreline. This room has character - the ceiling is slanted so I can't stand up properly but the skylight opens onto the roof for fresh breezes blowing in the from the lake. If I pop up onto the roof I have views overlooking all the red roofs of the town with Ohrid in the … [Read more...]

Matka Canyon, Macedonia

September 12, 2012 by Dave3 Comments

Pulled into Skopje late last night and like many of the cities in the nearby countries - easily found free wifi - a lifesaver when you are winging every hotel or hostel at the last minute. Looking for a break from the fast paced travel of the last few days - I got up Sunday morning and caught the early bus to Matka - which is just on the outskirts of the city. Most cities would kill to have a place like this within spitting distance of its … [Read more...]
