Puerto Rico Offers Postcard Perfect Getaway

September 15, 2012 by Phyllis SteinbergLeave a Comment

The vibrant music, cultural and culinary scene in Puerto Rico offers vacationers of all ages a stunning array of activities. This was my third visit to this colorful and congenial island and I jumped right into the mix at the legendary El San Juan Resort and Casino located on a two-mile beach in San Juan’s Isla Verde district. At the El San Juan, I encountered the locals dancing to the beat of sassy salsa rhythms. This happening occurs on … [Read more...]

So, Saipan…Surprise Me!

August 1, 2012 by Dave7 Comments

So, Saipan - we heard there wasn't much to see on your small island and our expectations were low after reading a number of negative reviews online. Sure there is poker in nearly every laundromat, an inordinate number of empty buildings, some falling into disrepair, an underlying problem with a gambling addiction, hence several 24-hour pawn shops - and nearly every market displaying permanent signs indicating "we accept food stamps" with … [Read more...]

As a tourist destination in Asia, Macau pretty much has it all. Bustling nightlife with amazing casinos and gambling entertainment, beautiful beaches, an amazing heritage of Portuguese and Chinese culture and luxury resorts offering accommodation at low prices all vie for your attention on this small, densely populated island. Dropping onto Saipan

July 16, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Dropped into Saipan in the dead of night - starry skies, the blackness of the sea greeted us - disturbed only by the lights emanating from this small island. I had only done cursory research before our visit here and after speaking for nearly 2 hours to my seatmate who lives here now - I wasn't really sure what to expect. He spoke of sweat shops (now extinct), high alcoholism, a hub for smuggling drugs in from China, unemployment, gambling … [Read more...]

Mardi Gras Traditions run Deep in Biloxi

March 1, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

While New Orleans gets all the press and publicity about Mardi Gras there's an equally fun party occurring in Biloxi Mississippi. It is rare to have a more collective community experience than a Mardi Gras parade and the city of Biloxi on Mississippi's Gulf Coast certainly knows how to create an annual enormous fun filled, safe and family friendly party. The dates for Mardi Gras vary every year; the main parade is always held on a Tuesday - … [Read more...]
