The Tsaatan Nomads – Mongolia Reindeer Herders

December 28, 2016 by Patricia PagenelLeave a Comment

The Tsaatan Nomads, also known as the Dukhan, live high in the Ulaan Taiga mountain range of Mongolia. Russia borders the region to the west, the Darkhad Valley and Lake Khövsgöl (Khövsgöl Nuur) to the east. Through millennia, the Tsaatan livelihood has been tied to their reindeer herd. Today the roughly 500 Dukhan left are some of the last of the reindeer herders in the world. Reaching the Tsaatan camp is a challenging endeavor as it takes … [Read more...]

December 2, 2016 by Abdul Rastagar4 Comments

Somewhere between the modern and the traditional, there lies Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia’s fascinating capital is a city evolving before our very eyes. Its population is rapidly trading its ancestral, nomadic ways for a more modern life while still trying to retain the uniqueness of its rich culture. Ulaanbaatar is a city in transition, moved by dynamics bigger than itself. It lies at the intersection of globalization, capitalism, the legacy of … [Read more...]

She Becomes a Judge and I Become a Mountain Nomad

November 28, 2016 by Marinel de JesusLeave a Comment

As usual, I was in my office sipping my cup of soy latte when I heard screaming from a group of female colleagues down the hallway. Having been here at this office for 13 years, my first thought was, “Oh, someone just announced she’s engaged or having a baby.”  My legal office is full of female attorneys. Actually, a majority of them are females. I hit 40 this year. So, as you can see, I spent majority of my fertile years as a female in this work … [Read more...]

Giant’s Causeway – One of the Most Memorable Sights in All of Europe

November 4, 2016 by Jeremy BLeave a Comment

While Giant’s Causeway might not have the name recognition of the Louvre or Buckingham Palace, it nonetheless rivals and even surpasses these manmade destination spots in terms of sheer memorability. Israel, The Holy Land

October 7, 2016 by Jacki Ueng1 Comment

There is a magical land located in the Middle East; it is but a relatively small dot on the map, but has played an enormous role politically and religiously throughout recorded history. Israel is a travel destination sought out by a diversity of travelers: the foodie, the … [Read more...]

Greetings from the Jordanian Desert

September 2, 2016 by Dave7 Comments

This was part of an epic mid summer trek from Dana Biosphere Reserve to Petra - via Little Petra. RUNNING OUT OF WATER In temperatures approaching 40 degrees (104 degrees Fahrenheit) - perhaps higher in the shadeless rock strewn environment, we started day one of our trek under the searing heat of the mid day sun (to be sure, not the wisest move). After an hour of our estimated 6-hour trek I had already consumed 1/2 of my water allotment. … [Read more...]
