More Benelux Travels

August 30, 2010 by Dave8 Comments

It is so awesome to be able to travel between countries with no stops at borders. The only indication you've left one country and entered another one these days in the European Union is when the carrier on your mobile phone changes! The public transportation system works extremely well - you never have to wait very long for either buses or trains. Today's highlight was a visit to the picturesque town of Vianden. Cobblestone streets wind their … [Read more...]

More fun in Luxembourg!

August 26, 2010 by Dave2 Comments

Did you know southern California born General George S. Patton is buried just outside of Luxembourg City at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial in Hamm. He is the most famous American buried in Luxembourg! This is well worth the short drive from Luxembourg City - hundreds of white marble crosses mark each grave. Patton's grave is marked the same way, yet his grave is solitary "at the head of the troops" in front of all the other … [Read more...]

Greetings from Luxembourg City

August 21, 2010 by Dave5 Comments

We came out of the sky in Frankfurt after a very choppy flight from San Francisco. Our landing even incorporated a nifty swerve at the last minute which produced a collective oooh and ahh from many of the tired passengers. I had planned on taking a bus from the airport to Luxembourg City however upon landing I discovered Hahn airport (as listed on my bus printout) was not Frankfurt airport. Running to secure a bus I bumped into a number of locals … [Read more...]

Building Back Peru

August 16, 2010 by Andrea WilsonLeave a Comment

Volun-Tourism is one of the fastest growing sects of international travel. Unfortunately, corporations profiting on this burgeoning market have become common. Those looking for travel volunteer opps should seek out groups that are well organized, accept volunteers of varying time commitments, don't charge high participation costs, and most importantly, are non-profit groups putting the majority of resources back into their assisted communities. … [Read more...]

Wheels in the Baja

August 9, 2010 by David DowlingLeave a Comment

My friends call me "Wheels." My story begins in 1950, after polio left me 'confined" to a wheelchair but certainly not "by it." Inspired by the book Into A Desert Place by Graham Macintosh, my story unfolds into a road trip through Baja, California with my friend Jack. A quick adventure over 7 days and 2000 miles provides a lifetime of memories of a frontier land south of the border that in 1972 presented challenges to all travelers, especially … [Read more...]

Anguilla is a tropical paradise of tranquility

August 6, 2010 by Phyllis SteinbergLeave a Comment

Thirty three beaches beckon tourists I didn't see any Kentucky Fried Chicken or Burger King franchises on the island of Anguilla. In fact, I didn't locate any chain restaurants on the island. A local told me that Subway once opened a restaurant on the island, but it didn't last long. There also are no large cruise ships, no casinos and no nude bathing. Cruise ships can't go to the island because there isn't a port large enough to handle them. … [Read more...]

Top 3 Favorite Trips & One Bad One!

August 5, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Time spent using public transportation are good opportunities to reflect on previous travels. One does not always get to do this; when you are addicted to travel you are often thinking about your next trip even during your current trip. I came up with a list of my top 3 favorite trips and the one "trip from hell". #1 Trip to Nepal I took in 1996 - this trip really turned me on to International travel and the hardships I personally faced … [Read more...]
