Tasmania Travel Guide

February 24, 2014 by Kerstin HLeave a Comment

Though Tasmania is a small island, it is packed with things to do, see, and experience. It is a must-see for any traveler or backpacker making their way through Australia. Named after an European explorer, “Tassie”, as it’s fondly known to locals, is the most mountainous state in Australia, and 40% of the island is National Forest. There are plenty of opportunities for sailing, kayaking, and hiking around the island. Tasmania is unique for its … [Read more...]

The Dangerous First Descent of the Zambezi

February 3, 2014 by Richard Bangs1 Comment

It was Valentine’s Day when I first saw the river; it was love at first sight. Along with a party of tour operators, I had been shuttled between game parks and hotel lobbies for days, all leading up to this: Victoria Falls. While the other occupants of the Land Rover pressed for a glimpse of the great falls upstream, I looked the other way, out of habit. Some 350 feet below the bridge we were driving over, a mighty river coiled and cursed through … [Read more...]

Helicopter Tour of Darwin Australia

January 30, 2014 by Dave2 Comments

What to do in Darwin on a rainy grey day? Going up in a Helicopter is perhaps not one's first choice. It is the rainy season here. With that said, perhaps it was optimistic to think I could do a scheduled Heli Pub Crawl. Yes this is what you think! Five remote pubs accessed via helicopter - spread out over 250 miles - lasting much of the day. Meeting locals, meeting characters and perhaps making some new friends. Oh and enjoying great beer. … [Read more...]

River Gods: Confessions of a Grand Canyon Guide

January 16, 2014 by Richard Bangs1 Comment

It all began, for me, at a meeting of the Canoe Cruisers Association, the Washington, D.C. chapter. In the midst of the button-down capital there is an underground of cutoffs and t-shirts that each weekend assembles by the banks of some Shenandoah or Appalachia river to rake the whitewater with paddles. A recent high school graduate searching for life’s passion, I joined up at the urging of my old Scout leader, and was immediately hooked. My … [Read more...]

The Howler Monkeys of Nicaragua

September 29, 2013 by Kim HornsbyLeave a Comment

A deafening jungle downpour assaulted the clay roof of my cousin, Rob’s Nicaraguan ranch house. Lying snug in bed, I foresaw the cancellation of our excursion at first light to track the elusive Mantled Howler Monkeys. Every day for the last week, I’d been woken by the guttural roaring of howlers somewhere off in the Mombacho jungle, but I had yet to lay eyes on one. The fierce rain was so loud from inside the house that even if they were calling … [Read more...]

Learn to Lucid Dream and Travel the World While you Sleep

September 8, 2013 by Jamie Alexander3 Comments

Most people don't get to spend their entire life traveling around the world, but if it was possible would you grab the opportunity with both hands? Would you love to travel to far off places at the drop of a hat? You're either about to go on the adventure of a lifetime within the next few years, or you've already been and it's killing you inside because it will be a while before you go away again. Adrian Qais: Adventure Traveller

August 17, 2013 by Dave2 Comments

Adrian's travels embody what we define as "experiential travel" - at its core it is traveling with an intent and openness to having experiences - in part focusing on what is unique to a particular region. And Adrian has already had enough unique experiences from his time on the road to last most people a lifetime. From being kidnapped in Africa to staying with nomadic Bedouin tribespeople in the deserts of Oman to total cultural immersion in … [Read more...]
