Gray Fossil Site: An Accidental Discovery

November 8, 2018 by Steve TaylorLeave a Comment

On the morning of January 20, 2018, I found myself roaming the back roads of Washington County, Tennessee with my camera and an itchy shutter finger. I had been in Kingsport for a week on business and was desperate to find something to write about in the area. It was by pure coincidence that I happened upon Gray Fossil Site and General Shale Natural History Museum. Dig Site In May of 2000, a Tennessee DOT crew was grading an unsafe hill … [Read more...]

Road Trip Part 3: San Diego and Encinitas

October 26, 2018 by Steve Taylor3 Comments

International travelers are more than happy to tell you all about the people, places, and cultures of the world. There is nothing that can compare to the experience of exploring ancient cities in far away countries. To be emersed in the customs of a foreign land is an escape from one's self and education in life. In the U.S. we are so fascinated by the cultures of other countries that we often take for granted the diversity within our borders. … [Read more...]

Road Trip Part 2: Tucson to Alpine

October 23, 2018 by Steve TaylorLeave a Comment

When I decided to take my first cross-country road trip, in April of 2012, the destination was originally set as Tucson, AZ. A close friend had moved there a few years prior, and he really seemed to love it. Having spent most of my life in Northern Indiana, I was fed up with cold weather and dreamed of visiting a climate that was completely different. My trip was as much about scouting for a possible move as it was a new adventure. When I arrived … [Read more...]

Franconia Notch – an easy day trip from Boston

October 12, 2018 by Abdul Rastagar1 Comment

One of my favorite things to do when I used to live in Boston was to spend the weekend in one of the adjoining states. I'd load my car with my dog, grab a backpack and head out to either the Green Mountains in New Hampshire or the White Mountains in Vermont. Because the states in the US northeast are so small, getting there was all too easy. So when I visited Boston recently for a conference, I decided to extend my stay through the weekend and … [Read more...]

10 Days of Greece Holidays – 1Girl, 1Guy, 1Crazy Adventure

September 11, 2018 by Savvy Fernweh2 Comments

Recently I visited Greece for a 10 day holiday. Before planning our travels, I had some questions: - What are the best islands to visit in Greece? - Where to stay? - What to do? We had only 10 days and wanted this to be a dream trip. So we carefully chose to visit Santorini island, Mykonos island and Vikos Gorge in Zagoria. Although we had multiple flights through Athens, we did not really explore the city. Here are our favorite places … [Read more...]

Exploring Elche

August 26, 2018 by Steph Cooke1 Comment

Also known as the City of Palms, Elche- or Elx in the Valencian dialect- is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination. Elche is situated in Spain’s Costa Blanca region, approximately 23km inland from Alicante. A regular train service connects the two cities, and there are good motorway links to Torrevieja and Cartagena. It is situated conveniently close to two airports- the recently renamed Alicante-Elche airport and … [Read more...]

Slave Trade Sites Part 2: Gorée Island, Senegal.

August 18, 2018 by Pete Martin3 Comments

It’s a short ferry ride to Île de Gorée (Gorée Island) from Senegal’s capital, Dakar. I wonder if I can take another day of slave museums in my worn-out state after a severely delayed flight. I quickly regret this stupid thought. Of course I can; it’s only a lack of sleep. It bears absolutely no comparison with what these people went through, so I’m sure that I can find the energy to pay my respects. Everything is calm belying the awful … [Read more...]
