Cuzco, Peru – Travel Agencies

by Dave · 4 Comments

Using Travel Agencies can be advantageous or disadvantageous depending on how you like to travel and your budget. Depending on the situation and type of trip, using travel agencies are often more expensive than planning and making the trip on your own. However, travel agencies will often save valuable travel time as they already have existing relationships established with guides and local tour operators. They offer pre-arranged tours and … [Read more...]

Cuzco, Peru – Machu Picchu

by Dave · 11 Comments

Machu Picchu is visually one of the planet's most unique and inspirational sites. Combine its visual beauty with the intriguing story of a "lost city" high in the Andes being "discovered" centuries after it was abandoned has made this site obtain almost a mythical status. One can attempt to experience Machu Picchu through videos, photographs and glowing travel writing, but there is absolutely no substitute to visiting the site in person. … [Read more...]

Arequipa, Peru – Colca Canyon

by Dave · Leave a Comment

For those who are in decent shape, a trek in Colca Canyon is one of the highlights of visiting Arequipa. Choose from a variety of trekking itineraries ranging from 1 to 2 to 3+ days. The actual canyon is about 4-5 hours by bus from Arequipa (depending on which trailhead you use). We do not recommend doing this as a day trip - as the distances are to great, with very limited time at the canyon and extremely early departure and late arrival times. … [Read more...]

Arequipa, Peru – Museo Santuarios Andinos

by Dave · 2 Comments

Museo Santuarios Andinos, located just off the Plaza de Armas at La Merced No 1001, houses the famous ice princess mummy named Juanita. She was discovered on the 6300meter + volcano of Ampato in 1995 by the Zarate's and anthropologist Dr. Reinhard. She was originally sacrificed on the summit of Ampato but had fallen many feet down the slopes as the ice melted around her. During 1995 the snow and ice on Ampato was melting quite fast because of the … [Read more...]

All listings on this page are alphabetized. We visited or participated in all the activities listed on this page. Colca Canyon - view our description here El Misti - towers above Arequipa at 5,822 M or 19,101 feet. Visitors to the city can't miss it; it dominates the skyline. Several options are available for hiking in its vicinity or climbing to the top. A normal climb is 2 to 3 days but those who have problems with altitude or are not … [Read more...]

Las Vegas, NV – Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The Eiffel Tower is well worth a visit to the top. This is an exact 1/2 scale replica of the real Gustav's Eiffel Tower located in Paris, France. If you have never been to the real Eiffel Tower in France this is a pretty good replica. You buy your tickets on the first floor of the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas (owned by Caesars). Note the pretty sky on the ceiling when you walk into this hotel. The twilight of a summer Paris evening never changes in … [Read more...]

Las Vegas, NV – Mt. Charleston

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Mount Charleston, (standing just above 11,900 feet) is Las Vegas' tallest nearby mountain and is covered with snow in the winter and offers a break from the heat in the summer. Merely 45-50 minutes from "the strip" this affords an easy day trip and a possible much needed escape from the glitz and glamour of the casino life. Take the 15 north of Las Vegas and exit at State Route 157. A good hike is the Fletcher Canyon Trail (about 2 miles). … [Read more...]

Las Vegas, NV – Red Rock Canyon

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Few people who visit Las Vegas actually make the trek out to Red Rock Canyon. This state park is located about 35 minutes west of Vegas proper - off of W. Charleston Blvd (route 159). Note that there may be signs off of the 15 freeway telling you to exit for Red Rock but there may not be any signs telling you to turn onto Charleston Blvd to get to Red Rock. With the urban sprawl making its way across the creosote covered high desert towards … [Read more...]

Angkor Wat, Cambodia – Angkor Wat

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Angkor Wat is known worldwide and is certainly the most famous attraction in Cambodia; it is located only 6km from the old market in Siem Reap - take Charles DeGaulle Blvd to reach the main Angkor Wat temples. Tourists used to be denied access to rent motor bikes for personal use (because of the danger of landmines) but now one can rent a bike for use around Siem Reap. You can either rent a taxi, tuk-tuk, regular bicycle, or go with someone on … [Read more...]
