June 22, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

Hawai'i, the Big Island (June 22, 2011) -You know what breaks our heart? Hearing about visitors to Hawai'i Island who are staying in Kona, and who drive two or three hours over to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, then drive around the park for a couple of hours, dashing through the visitors center, taking a snapshot of the steaming summit crater, maybe a quick walk through Nāhuku Lava Tube, then off they go again all the way back to Kona. This … [Read more...]

Back from LA

June 11, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Just got back from the City of Angels. Had the Natural History museum exhibits all to myself - 1st Friday of every month open late, live bands setup shop and food - and some of the southlands pre-eminent professors and researchers give lectures, setup right among the exhibits. Def a highlight. Amazing gold and gem collection. World's largest known Ammonites. I felt like Ben Stiller in the Night of the Museum...well without the displays coming to … [Read more...]

Off to the City of Angels…again :)

June 2, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

I'm off to LA in a day or two for a week of fun and researching more content for my quickly growing Los Angeles article and maybe sell some of my Freeways of Los Angeles books! There is NEVER a shortage of anything to do in the LA area and this trip will be no exception. The Annenberg Space for Photography has a large exhibit on Water until mid June - so will squeeze this in. Then going to hang out near downtown with one of the Esotouric … [Read more...]

Pittsburgh Weekend Getaway

December 1, 2009 by DaveLeave a Comment

The steel industry vacated Pittsburgh starting in the mid 1980's and by the mid 90's had almost entirely disappeared. With a hold on the industry of Pittsburgh for such a long time the loss of the steel mills happened rather quickly. However the legacy of the period of steel in Pittsburgh lives on; names like Carnegie, Mellon and Frick dot the city. As a testament to the resourcefulness of Pittsburgh, neighborhoods have since been revitalized, … [Read more...]
