Colima, Mexico – Restaurants

by Dave · Leave a Comment

There are many small restaurants in Colima, of varying quality. Many of the cafes and small restaurants are located in or next to the main plaza. We ate or visited the following restaurants: Neveria La Flor de Michoacan is on a corner of the plaza and is open every day from 8am until 10pm. They have a good selection of locally spiced dishes. La Arabica is located at Guerrero 162 near the corner of Obregon street. This small coffee house … [Read more...]

Colima, Mexico – More Info

by Dave · 1 Comment

Colima's tourist office is located in the main doorway of the interior of the Governor's Palace. This conveniently located office also has very friendly staff. They are open Monday through Friday from 9am until 3pm, and then again from 6pm to 9pm. On Saturday they are open from 9am to 1pm. The staff speak broken English. If you are unsure of an attraction, or how to get from one place to another, the tourist office is your best resource and … [Read more...]

Chamonix, France – Aiguille du Midi

by Dave · 2 Comments

Aiguille du Midi, the world's longest and highest tramway, is well worth the price of admission. The views from the top of the Chamonix Valley, and of Mt. Blanc and the nearby mountains are spectacular. This natural rock spire is pictured in numerous places in Chamonix. Tourist shops sell paintings of it, postcards, and photographs. It is situated at about 12,600 feet in the shadow of Mount Blanc which rises another 3000 feet or so higher. If … [Read more...]

Chamonix, France – Mer de Glace

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Mer de Glace is well worth a visit for visitors of all ages. It is the second largest glacier in the Alps - approximately 9 miles long, almost a mile wide, and about 1200 feet in its deepest places. It moves more than 100 feet every year and is currently retreating. There are several ways to reach the glacier; for those who enjoy hiking, we highly recommend walking from the middle stop on the Aiguille du Midi. This hike works for those who … [Read more...]

Chamonix, France – Other Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The town of Chamonix offers plenty of shopping, relaxing or people watching. Chamonix reminds me of Whistler, British Columbia. It has the feel of being a high mountain village when in actuality it sits only approximately 3400 feet above sea level. Many local tourist shops sell stunning photographs of the surrounding mountains. These photographs are often only a few euros and are good presents for friends and family. However purchasing frames … [Read more...]

Chamonix, France – Hotels & Lodging

by Dave · Leave a Comment

There are several nice places to stay in Chamonix. I was in Chamonix in the middle of July and had no problem finding a hotel at the last minute. All the locals I spoke with agree that July and August are the busiest months for the summer season. The following hotels and hostels are listed as basic references for where to stay in Chamonix, covering a wide range of budgets. If you have stayed at a hotel in Chamonix not listed on this page, … [Read more...]

Chamonix, France – Restaurants

There are many excellent restaurants in Chamonix serving a variety of cuisine (not only French food); food tends to be somewhat pricey. During our visit we ate at restaurants serving Chinese, Indian, and Greek food. A few restaurant to consider dining at during your stay in Chamonix are the following: Le Fer a Cheval is located at 118 Rue Whymper, and is known for its fondue. Prices range from 12 to 16 euros. PHONE NUMBER 04 50 53 13 … [Read more...]

Mt. Shasta, CA – Mt Shasta City

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Mt. Shasta City is everything one looks for in a base-of-a-mountain town; it is small, charming and a meeting place for those attracted to this great mountain. It is a collection of those who come to the base of the mountain seeking spiritual guidance, those who come to marvel at its beauty, those who come to try to reach its lofty summit, those passing through on the 5, those who live and work here and those who just want to connect with nature. … [Read more...]

Mt. Shasta, CA – Restaurants

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Lily's Mt Shasta, is one of our favorite restaurants in town; we have eaten here numerous times. Located at 1013 S. Mt Shasta Blvd. The breakfast is comparable to Firesign Cafe on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. Lilys serves a very good Eggs Benedict and also a Salmon Omelet. Lilys also serves Lunch, Dinner and they do catering. This restaurant is Dave's "post climb" tradition and will never be missed after coming off the mountain. They are open 7 … [Read more...]
