Destination: Buenos Aires, Argentina

March 19, 2013 by High Heeled TravelerLeave a Comment

I could see myself, watching myself. An “out of body experience,” they call it. I was naked, wallowing hysterically in the crisp, clean, white sheets of the king-sized bed in my Marriott hotel room. I hadn’t eaten for many hours, too tired, emotional, and downright fearful to leave the room to forage for even a candy bar, of which there were plenty. Abundant bodegas were filled to the brim with candy brands foreign and domestic; chocolate … [Read more...]

Five Fascinating Animals of the Deep in Florida – Guest Post

October 31, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

With news of a giant eyeball washing up on a beach of Florida earlier last week, perhaps it is time to step back and take a look at some of the weird and wonderful animals that live in the beautiful waters of the sunshine state. Although scientists aren’t as yet quite sure as to which species the eyeball originates (the toss up is currently between an oarfish and a squid), the 3 million anglers that visit Florida every year will be happy to … [Read more...]

Commercial Coffee Production in California?

May 12, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

Organic farmer, Jay Ruskey has been at the forefront in California of commercially growing exotic and rare fruit species at his farm perched on the side of the Santa Ynez Mountains above Goleta since the mid 1990's. The 42 acre farm is about 650 feet above sea level about two miles inland from the Pacific Ocean and on a clear day (of which there are many at this elevation) there are great views of the ocean and the Channel Islands. For … [Read more...]

Enjoying Victoria Falls…as in the Waterfalls

February 11, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Just like with the Iquazu Falls in South America where you can enjoy views from two countries (Brazil & Argentina), its the same here between Zimbabwe and Zambia. We entered the Falls National Park on the Zimbabwe side and surprisingly had the trails and viewpoints all to ourselves for the better part of 3 hours. These are among the world's greatest waterfalls - you can walk well over a kilometer to see their span. A highlight of a walk here … [Read more...]

Esotouric, West Adams Neighborhood, Los Angeles

December 11, 2011 by Dave2 Comments

Esotouric offers a variety of tours in Los Angeles; their name is a twist of "esoteric" and all their tours have an element of this. We joined the founders, the husband wife team of Kim and Richard for their niche historic West Adam's "crime" tour which covers a part of Los Angeles most tourists will never visit - although this neighborhood is fairly close to Exposition Park and relatively close to downtown. As with other neighborhoods in Los … [Read more...]
