Unusual holidays – volunteering in Zimbabwe

March 8, 2014 by Anna Lysakowska2 Comments

After I decided to volunteer at Antelope Park in Gweru in Zimbabwe many people asked me if I really wanted to go there. Everyone is afraid of something; I was afraid of big dogs. That is partly why I wanted to travel there - to test myself and overcome my fears. 'Where else in the world' – like the motto of Antelope Park says, can you walk with lions? When I reached Zimbabwe for the first couple of hours I felt afraid - not about the animals I … [Read more...]

Guide to Breckenridge, Colorado – There is Plenty to Do!

December 8, 2013 by Nicole SmithLeave a Comment

Breckenridge, Colorado is known for it’s quaint historic downtown and it’s epic 2,358 acres of skiing. Tucked away in the Rocky Mountains, it’s a small town that offers a lot. My husband’s family owns a small condo in Breckenridge, so we find ourselves up there quite often. It’s the perfect place to get away from the city life of Denver and relax. Over the years of visiting, we’ve discovered the best Breckenridge has to offer during both … [Read more...]

Keepers of the Wild mountain lion by Shara Johnson

Most people traveling down the historic Route 66 through Nevada and Arizona are looking for sights such as old diners and bars, historical structures, and the locations where stories of legendary characters of the past took place. They likely drive right by Keepers of the Wild Animal Rescue Sanctuary, between Kingman and Valentine, Arizona, without much of a second glance. A very low-key entrance with one billboard out front and a small building … [Read more...]

The Kenya Not Many See

June 26, 2013 by Chris Loehmer KincaidLeave a Comment

When I was in Kenya this May, I didn't go on a tourist's safari. I didn’t ride in a Jeep with a group of other people, traveling across wide open plains, snapping pictures of dozens of wild African animals. I experienced that seven years ago, and though I would love to do it again sometime, this year there was neither time nor money in the budget. You may be asking yourself, “So why did you go to Kenya? Doesn’t everyone go for the … [Read more...]

Author, Adam Shepard's journey starts in Central America studying and practicing Spanish and ultimately doing some volunteer work. His trip starts like a train pulling out of a station, slowly but then gaining momentum with ever meter of track covered as perspective and experiences are gained. Will this be just another descriptive diary of a trip abroad? The answer is a resounding no. Adam builds personal perspectives as he travels deeper … [Read more...]

Adam Shepard: Author and Speaker

April 20, 2013 by Dave3 Comments

Adam first reached out to us a few weeks ago in anticipation of the release of his second book, "One Life Lived". This story is an interesting one - detailing his unique adventures, cultural immersions and introspection about a year round the world trip. Adam's first book was about how he randomly moved to a city in the USA by pulling a name out of a hat - arriving with $25, a sleeping bag and the clothes on his back. The challenge was to … [Read more...]

Zurich Honeymoon, Guest Post

September 19, 2012 by Damon Padalecky1 Comment

I proposed after 3 wonderful years together. Yeah for me, right? Of course it is, but... I think I may have dug myself into a hole. So typically, the groom would never volunteer to take on ANYTHING related to planning a wedding; we’re supposed to just show up on the day of the wedding in the tuxedo chosen by our lovely brides. Yet, as a present for my bride, I took over the planning of our honeymoon. No pressure, of course. I wanted to avoid the … [Read more...]

Hundreds of volunteers made Oakland kids’ dreams come true

August 23, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Children at the Community School for Creative Education in Oakland saw their ideal play space designs become reality on Saturday, August 18. In just six hours, the “my dream playground” posters the kids had drawn were transformed into a creative, colorful play environment. Teams of volunteers assembled a steel and plastic playground structure with a twisted slide, monkey bars and lots of components for climbing and exploring. Some built a … [Read more...]
