Visit Kyoto, Japan – May 2023

May 1, 2023 by Dave1 Comment

Kyoto is well setup for tourism and unlike in other parts of Japan Kyoto, seems well versed in English with employees at restaurants and hotels mostly able to converse in English. This is the city of temples - during our visit, we were told there are something like 1,600 temples in or near Kyoto - several of them are within easy walking distance from the main street in the city, Shijo Avenue including the impressive Yasaka Shrine. Gion is a … [Read more...]

Il fornaio pizza

Nestled in the heart of Lombardy, Bergamo is a hidden gem that is often overlooked by tourists arriving at Milan Orio Airport. However, those who take the time to discover Bergamo will be rewarded with stunning medieval and Renaissance architecture, cobblestone streets lined with quaint shops and cafes, and a vibrant local culture. As a proud resident of Bergamo, I always recommend that visitors take the opportunity to explore the city rather … [Read more...]

Gretchen Upshaw, Founder of Spell Caster Ghost Tours

April 8, 2023 by Teh Chin Liang1 Comment

Growing up, Gretchen Upshaw had a fascination with the paranormal. In 2014, she took a ghost tour on her trip to New Orleans and realized that being a ghost tour guide was her next course in life. When she went back home to Austin, she announced to her friends that she was going to leave her job as an Executive Director for a culinary school, move to New Orleans, and become a ghost tour guide, which she did about 6 months later. Two months … [Read more...]

Hideaway Island, Vanuatu – April 2023

April 1, 2023 by DaveLeave a Comment

Easy to access, only about 15 minutes by mini van from Port Vila this private island is a favorite place to dive or snorkel by locals and visitors. Mini vans may drop passengers off at the driveway to the island or pull in next to the ferry dock (the walk down the driveway from the road is a short one). The ferry operates 24 hours a day and takes about 4 minutes from the mainland to the dock on the island. Alternatively, if the tide is low, one … [Read more...]

Artezzan Restaurant and Bar, Chester

Moxy Hotels, as a brand of Marriott, are designed to stand out from the crowd and Moxy Chester is no different. Just a five-minute walk from the city centre and train station, first impressions upon arriving at the hotel are positive. Themed throughout with stylish nods to its locality near the racecourse, a stunning steel horse installation and series of murals themed on racing set the vibe for our stay.  A unique artist’s interpretation of … [Read more...]

My Visit To Israel

March 12, 2023 by Janet MatriccianiLeave a Comment

The best way to visit Israel is with a fluent Hebrew speaker. That’s why I brought my thirteen-year-old son along, since he goes to a Jewish Day School and spends half each day speaking only Hebrew. Unfortunately, I had over-estimated his capabilities, so taxi rides often consisted of pointing and repeating English words with Israeli accents. If my son hadn’t thought that saying “Iz olright, Iz olright” with an Israel accent and considering that … [Read more...]
