Layovers are great*

June 27, 2015 by DanielLeave a Comment

I am fortunate enough to participate in non-rev travel. This has its obvious ups and downs. I know where to find free WiFi in Houston International. I've spent dozens of nights sleeping in airports. And I’m certainly no stranger to being stuck in cities I’d rather not be in. When I was marooned in Paris last November, I was faced with the difficult decision of how to spend the next 24 hours. I was exhausted from a brief romp around Spain and … [Read more...]

The Introvert’s Guide to Backpacking

June 14, 2015 by Cameryn Frost1 Comment

“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” -Bilbo Baggins, Fellowship of the Ring I never wanted to go backpacking. I had no interest in staying in hostels. An introvert by nature, I found the peace and privacy of a hotel room necessary, not only for the enjoyment of the trip, but for my mental sanity. Then the cheapskate … [Read more...]

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, a great steel and glass Victorian greenhouse, once part of a dirty steel mill city has now been transformed into one of the world’s most energy-efficient structures. Gambling at Casinos Around the WorldGambling at Casinos Around the World

May 13, 2015 by Milena B1 Comment

You may be able to walk in any Las Vegas casino sporting flip flops and a tank top, but try that in Monte Carlo and you'll probably be stopped at the door. Casino culture can be extremely different from place to place and if you're one of the many people who enjoys gambling as a regular part of their travels, then you'll need to be aware of how the rules change from standard American casinos to those in other parts of the world. Take a look at … [Read more...]

Island Hopping, Andaman Sea – Thailand

March 20, 2015 by Dave6 Comments

This week we have been exploring the warm clear waters of Southern Thailand. Our first stop was Ko Tah Chai - dubbed the "Maldives of Thailand" for its azure surrounding waters and the satin-like white sand beaches - which are so silky underfoot. Activities include: A Nature Hike - where you can spot a green pointy snail that lives and eats in certain trees and the pretty "chicken crab" which tends to hide during the heat of the day. The … [Read more...]

Pampered Luxury at Hastings House, Salt Spring Island

March 1, 2015 by Ariane Colenbrander1 Comment

Afternoon tea at Hastings House

I was recently pampered with a two-night stay at luxurious Hastings House Country House Hotel on Salt Spring Island. While I've been to Salt Spring several times, I had yet to enjoy this corner of the island, close enough to downtown Ganges yet far enough away to appreciate the solitude and nature that helps define this Relais & Chateaux property. The welcoming hotel grounds are filled with fragrant flowers and colourful birds, all with a … [Read more...]

Riviera Cancun: Secrets Silversands Resort

February 23, 2015 by Ariane Colenbrander5 Comments

Secrets Silversands Resort

Looking at numerous websites, Trip Advisor reviews, and tips from friends, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to picking a travel destination and resort. My husband and I wanted to visit the Riviera Maya this month, in a location away from the thumping of Cancun or Playa del Carmen. What we found was Puerto Morelos, a smaller town smack in between the two, yet close enough to get to the Mayan ruins while enjoying the warm, tropical breezes of … [Read more...]
