FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FEBRUARY IS MUSEUM MONTH IN SAN DIEGO

39 Area Museums Offer Half-Price Admission

Throughout the month of February 2010, visitors to San Diego can experience the region’s rich cultural offerings at half-price.  During San Diego Museum Month, visitors can pick up a free Museum Month pass at any Macy’s location in San Diego County; the pass can be used all month long for half-price admission for up to four guests per visit at 39 of San Diego’s diverse museums, cultural attractions and historical sites.

Participating museums include the USS Midway Museum and Maritime Museum of San Diego in downtown, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla, the new LUX Art Institute and San Diego Botanical Garden in Encinitas and 13 world-class facilities in Balboa Park, which is often referred to as the “Smithsonian of the West.”  For a complete list of participating museums, visit www.sandiegomuseumcouncil.org

Free Museum Month Passes are available at any Macy’s location in San Diego County and are valid from February 1-28, 2010. San Diego Macy’s locations include downtown San Diego’s Horton Plaza Mall; Fashion Valley and Mission Valley Malls, both in Mission Valley; Plaza Bonita in National City; Chula Vista Center in Chula Vista; Grossmont Center in La Mesa, and UTC Mall in La Jolla.  Directions and store hours can be found online at www.macys.com.

Museum Month was created in 1989 by the San Diego Museum Council to promote the region’s museums, historical sites, educational institutions and cultural offerings.  In 2009, more than 19,000 visitors used the Museum Month Pass to explore San Diego museums at half-price.

Happy happens in San Diego.  For more information on San Diego’s offerings, including exciting vacation packages and valuable coupons for attractions, restaurants and more, visit the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau's Web site, www.sandiego.org, or call 619-236-1212.  In San Diego, visit the International Visitor Information Center, located along the Embarcadero at the corner of West Broadway and Harbor Drive in downtown San Diego, or the La Jolla Visitor Center, located at the corner of Herschel Avenue and Prospect Street in La Jolla.
