Welcome to Hong Kong

March 17, 2009 by Amanda S. CollinsLeave a Comment

"Welcome to Hong Kong. If you are connecting to another flight, we wish you safe travels. On behalf of my crew, we thank you for flying Cathay Pacific." The soothing -- we are here to serve your needs -- voice of the head flight attendant jolted me back to reality -- I had been staring blankly at the multi-colored seat in front of me. It wasn't her voice that caused the jolt; the official announcement that I had made it to Hong Kong was what … [Read more...]

Monkey in Hotel Room, Varanasi, India

March 1, 2009 by Dave5 Comments

Reluctantly we left Varanasi despite the naked people sitting in the dirty streets, the unbelievable amount of cow poop clogging the narrow streets, the CONSTANT power outages, the smelly garbage everywhere, the people urinating and defecating in open view along some of the ghats, terrible pollution, large bellied obviously malnourished children, incredible poverty, CONSTANT badgering and aggressive pan handling by the touts and "guides" (worst … [Read more...]

February 1, 2009 by Dave3 Comments

If you are looking for a country that often many westerner's cannot even identify its location on a map, a place where foreigners are generally treated with care and respect, a country that has not been polluted with tourism, the "land of smiles" and a country where you will rarely see foreign tourists, then consider a trip to Bangladesh. Relaxing in Ubud, Bali

January 1, 2009 by Dave7 Comments

Recently we were in Bali for a week. We spent most of our time in the Ubud area and this article focuses on area attractions and information regarding this region. The closest International Airport is in Denpasar which is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the town of Ubud. From the airport the cheapest way to get to Ubud is to take a taxi to the bus station in Legion/Kuta and from the station, a bus to the bus station in Ubud. Note that … [Read more...]

Architecture in Tokyo

October 10, 2008 by HostelBookersLeave a Comment

From Fishing Village to Ultramodern Metropolis Tokyo began life as an humble fishing village but, having been effectively rebuilt after extensive damage sustained during WWII, today it is a futuristic blend of neon lights and towering skyscrapers. And there's far more to these modern buildings than functionality - from the giant advertising screens in Shinjuku to the technology stores of Akihabara, Tokyo's architecture is a chaotic mix of … [Read more...]

Exploring Turkey’s South West Coast

August 24, 2008 by Ginnie R3 Comments

Turkey is one of the world’s most popular destinations for tourists, and it’s easy to understand why. The year round sunshine and balmy climes while its European neighbours are battling the biting cold is just one. But the warmth doesn’t just come from the sun; it is also exuded from the Turkish people, who are some of the friendliest and most hospitable people on the planet. From the Blue Mosque and spice bazaar in Istanbul to the Ottoman … [Read more...]

Splendour of the Far East: The Philippines

July 5, 2008 by Junfil Olarte1 Comment

My plane bucks like a wild horse on the final approach before landing through disturbing clouds that crowd late afternoon summer skies over Manila. Beside me a Singaporean Flight Engineer and his wife eagerly peer out the window for a first glimpse of the city. "We've been visiting the islands a number of times," she explains, reminding me of how neighbouring Asians refer to the rest of the country, "and can't wait to get back. Philippines are … [Read more...]
