Crocasaurus Cove, Darwin Australia – May 2017

May 1, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

This center is located right in downtown Darwin and is conveniently near many restaurants, shopping and hotels. Crocodiles are their focus and these impressive creatures certainly gather their fair share of attention. Some of the largest crocs in the world are on display here - including Bert from the original Crocodile Dundee movie. One of the main attractions is the Cage of Death, the only place in Australia where you can safely dive with … [Read more...]

Maui, by Moon Handbooks

May 1, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Maui. The name quickly brings to mind the Road to Hana, beaches, surfing and the 10,000 foot volcano, Haleakalā. Long time travel blogger, Kyle of Kyle the Vagabond (who we have followed for numerous years) has written the go-to guide for all things Maui (including Molaka'i and Lan'i). Growing up in Maui, with a passion for exploration - he has a unique and varied perspective of the island that only a local can have. Specific itineraries are … [Read more...]

Far from the Madding Crowd – Our Half Day Jaunt in San Francisco

April 29, 2017 by Fern LeeLeave a Comment

Where do you go with half a day to kill in San Francisco? We decided to eschew some of the more touristy hotspots and headed to Potrero Hills, the Mission District and SoMa to see the real San Francisco. We drove into the city on a Sunday morning when parking is free, arriving at around 10am. At that time in the morning, we were still lucky enough to find parking, although it was filling up fast. Our first stop: 18th Street, Potrero Hills. … [Read more...]

The art of Damasquinado in Toledo Spain

April 25, 2017 by Barb HarmonLeave a Comment

Damasquinado (Toledo Craft) can be found in many shops in Toledo Spain. While in Toledo, we were “pulled” (seduced) into a workshop where the ancient craft of Damascene is practised. We literally had just checked into our hotel, dropped our bags in the room and headed out to grab a bite to eat. We walked a few steps when I felt a few raindrops hit my head. Of course the umbrellas were in our room but my husband volunteered (aka- was forced) to … [Read more...]

Non Stop, Vienna to LAX ‘Sound of Austria’ Austrian Air Launch Party

April 25, 2017 by Dave6 Comments

I recently attended a memorable party for the launch of Austrian Airline's new first ever route from Vienna to Los Angeles offering daily (except Sundays). This party was held at a Bel Air mansion tucked away in one of the highest canyons - located at the end of a cul de sac. Cars snaked down the road - we used uber and walked the last 1/3 of a mile. A red carpet entrance greeted us with Austrian Airline flight attendents wearing a color … [Read more...]

Hilton Resorts World Bimini: Limited Lunch Choices, No Limits on Taste

April 21, 2017 by Tomeka Allgood1 Comment

Whenever traveling, I make a point not to eat food from any chain restaurant or eatery. During a recent trip to Bimini, which is the closest Bahamian island to the United States, I did not have that problem. Due to the fact that there are not any chain food places on the island, I was not left with much of a choice. The closest thing to anything that resembled a chain was Amicci’s, the coffee shop, which served a limited Starbucks menu. Staying … [Read more...]

Antequera: Andalucia Spain without the tourists

April 17, 2017 by Stephen W. Brock3 Comments

Antequera streets

We say we want an authentic local experience when we travel. But do we? Suburbs and industrial parks are authentic if, by that word, you mean a place where people actually live and work. What we really seek are sights and a slice of life that doesn’t feel produced for the consumption of others. Or maybe all we desire are places not frequented by other tourists. We want to feel we’re having a unique experience, one that hasn’t shown up already … [Read more...]
